Sharing my story for the first time.
With the project Rauw (āRawā) I want to visualise my inner world, having experienced multiple cases of sexual violence. Creating my own little demon using the vast and grim landscape of Iceland as a backdrop. I share the eerie feeling surrounding the topic of abuse and assault that a lot of women face on a daily basis. Making this the story of many; as this suffering is inflicted on not only the victim, but also their loved ones. Like a stone being thrown in water, creating ripples breaking the surface.
For this project I partnered with the wonderful @wilkegeurds_beeldverhalen creating a photoseries and short documentary āOneindige Leegteā (Endless void). The latter being the winner of the Nikonfilmfestival Benelux Edition @nikonfilmfestival@nederlandsfilmfestival . Climbing calderas, geysers and basalt columns we crossed the entire island together in under 3 days, shooting in temperatures as low as 5Ā°C. Iām proud to be sharing this project, with a big thank you to the wonderful team:

We won the Best Picture Award at the @nikonfilmfestival Benelux. The awards ceremony took place last Thursday in Utrecht, and our film Endless Void [Oneindige Leegte in Dutch] won. š½ļø
Endless Void follows 28-year-old Dutch fashion designer Willemijn Roebroek in her inner quest to come to terms with sexual abuse. She depicts this process in a self-designed look. As a final step, Willemijn decides to capture this creation in the desolate landscape of Iceland. Director Wilke Geurds follows Willemijn during this process, in which she is not only the creator, but also wears her own design. In conversations, Willemijn reflects on what the creation has brought her and how the inner demon of guilt continues to haunt her, but can sexual violence ever be the victimās fault?

Last year one of my favourite looks didn't survive a photo shoot.
While it's a one of a kind couture piece I could make a replica by copying the last parts of the design process. The original piece was a gypsum cast that was moulded, afterwards 3D scanned, printed, meticalously sanded, polished and chromed. This time I could immediately start with the print, still making it a production of months.
As I outsourced the chroming - I always try to do everything myself, but this isn't one of my skills- I waited impatiently for the results.
With a close inspection you can see these pieces are slightly different and they bring their own challenges.
However I'm very happy to be able to be offering this 2.0 look again, having made it sturdier than ever!
