I feel like it’s been 100 years since I’ve played out with my band, that’s why I’m super excited about being on this killer bill at @sagebrush this Friday. Got a bunch of fresh material to play for ya too. Thanks to @chaywey for putting this bad boy together.

Think globally, drink locally. Support your neighborhood dive ‘cause ya never know when you’re gonna need your neighborhood dive to support you.

Hanging out and singing songs this Thursday at everyone’s favorite dive. Come see me sweat as much as the bottles of Lonestar sprawled across the bar counter.

On this night one year ago, I walked off the Sagebrush stage to a frantic phone call from my sister informing me that our mother was losing her painfully drawn out battle with terminal cancer. In a corner of the crowded bar, I said my final goodbye to one of the most supportive and impactful people in my life. She died before that short phone call was over. I was supposed to be in Colorado that night with my family but my mom insisted that one day wouldn’t make a difference and that I should never cancel gigs. In the wake of that evening, I ultimately came to realize just how burned out I had become in the ceaseless grind to take care of my family while maintaining both my musical career and day job. Once the gigs dried up, I eventually decided to slow down and learn how to enjoy life again. Shit, to learn how to enjoy music again. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a large support group in the form of my family, friends, my band, my music community and most importantly my wife & daughter. Life is short, slowing down to appreciate everything and everyone you already have can seem terrifying but I’d highly recommend doing it from time to time. I’d also recommend telling those you love that you love every chance you get. Tonight, I look forward to returning to the world outside of my cave, fully refreshed and with a restored sense of wonder. Love all of you beautiful fuckers.

Art is sacred and the ultimate point, whatever the medium, is to keep the practice alive. Every artist at one point in their life was exposed to work that inspired them down the path. Stress over your craft, toil over it, bleed and despair over it but NEVER take it for granted. And don’t forget to live your life while you are doing it.
