Texas food drop 🥩
1-2. Went to check out
@uchirestaurants for happy-hour and ended up ordering half the regular menu it was so good. The wagyu carpaccio (2nd photo - fried jalapeño, cured egg yolk, nuoc cham, chili oil) was so good we ordered it twice.
3-4.
@franklinbbq is a Texas institution. It opens around 11am but the line-up starts forming around 8am. We debated whether waiting in a line for hours would be worth it but bro was it ever. I think Nick saw god trying the brisket for the first time. Hands-down the best bbq I’ve had in my life.
5.
@loroeats is the baby of Aaron Franklin, Franklin BBQ, and Tyson Cole, Uchi. It was the first place we stopped for dinner in Austin and it really set the tone for the rest of the trip. BBQ paired with Southeast Asian and Japanese sauces is everything I could want and more.
6. It’s 2am, Nick and me are absolutely smashed. We popped into this burger joint and ordered two sliders with some queso and this comes out. It looks like puke and I was actually scared to try it. Turned out to be a total slay. Something about judging a book by its cover.
7. Following up our late night, we were incredibly hungover and could only my manage walking 5 minutes to get some food the next morning. Luckily in Austin there are clusters of food trucks absolutely everywhere.
@cuantostacos512 did not disappoint with these tacos, especially at $2.50 a piece.
8-9. Our final dinner in Austin was at a place absolutely everyone recommended we go
@oddduckaustin The ceviche and Thai apple salad were my favourites on the menu but honestly the servers made the night.
10. The morning we left Austin we hit up one last joint
@kgbbq Texan BBQ fused with Egyptian flavours. Another slay. The kofta and mac and cheese were the winners for me. Like sorry, mac and cheese topped with onions, sumac, pomegranate bbq sauce, zaatar and lamb shoulder sounds like it shouldn’t work but bro does it ever.
