Just got the first visual of a possible cover for my upcoming book, The Producers Guide to Virtual Production. Guess who just finished their first book today? Hint - the same guy who’s going to smoke that cigar right now! What a wild trip this has been… and there are so many people to thank and I’ll do that properly later and/or in the book, but this would have never been possible without my DGA colleagues @brooneydirector and @maryloubelli - they were so kind and thoughtful to speak with me after my presentation at the DGA ‘digital days’, graciously offered me an opportunity to write a chapter for their directing book, The Director Tells the Story, which is the standard bearer in the industry, and then offered to introduce me to their publisher and put in a strong recommendation on my behalf. Not only would I never have been able to do this without them, I never would have even thought of doing this… thank you Bethany and Mary - I owe you one!
This was me at 18. So happy to be a deadhead. Look at that smile. Pure bliss. Bob Weir’s music changed my life. Shaped me. It made me believe the world was weird and wonderful and wild. I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. I felt so alive dancing in the parking lot, living in my Dodge van, and following this band of merry pranksters. I’m so grateful for his gift. There goes ten… and what a year it has been! Billie Eilish, Mammoth ski trip, working on Star Trek in Toronto, competing in track & field, weekend visits to TJ the pony, first Hollywood premiere, NY trip to the Bowery hotel, too many trips to the Slime Museum, girls night out in Toronto, celebrating Big Papa and Grandmas 60th wedding anniversary, summer trip to London & Paris, Balboa back to school shopping (on rollerskates), summer lemonade stands, after school crepes and boba at Yume, Haunted Horror Night at Universal, and most of all - lots of love and support from family & friends. It takes a village so thanks to everyone near and far, from Ojai to Toledo to Balboa to Toronto, who helped make this year so special. And even though every year as Poppys dad is the best year of my life, ten was indeed one for the record books. Happy 11th bday, Poppy!!!!! Live long and prosper!
Drove 600+ miles from Long Island to Toronto last Saturday. If you’ve never been through the Catskills in Fall I could not recommend it more… top 3 drive ever - up there with Big Sur and Colorado Rockies… fall colors, hundreds of lakes, mountain passes, winding roads through cute towns, etc… grateful to get out and clear my head with the sound of a big turbo and 3.8L flat six purring behind my back! #porsche #964 #restomod #turbo #aircooled #liquidsilvermetallic #narrowbody #sleeper #c4
Our trip to Switzerland today didn’t go as planned. Apparently my passport expires in 2 months and 28 days. Which means they won’t let me on any flight to the EU as you need a passport valid for 3 months from your date of departure. Been traveling my whole life and learned this the hard way - at the Heathrow security checkin with my child. So instead of being on a train through the Alps to Zermatt we are back in London regrouping and coming up with a Plan B. I’ll head to the US Embassy Monday morning to see if I can get an emergency passport to continue our trip - anyone who has any tips with this please send me a DM - but if not we will make this final weekend in London special and memorable despite the temporary setback. Poppy as always is such a great traveler and has taken this bump in the road in stride. We lucked out for a Friday night and found a hotel room at our favorite @portobelloldn Poppy won’t make it to Zermatt this trip, but is leaning some valuable traveling (and life) lessons not least of which to always embrace the journey as the destination.
