Drop what you’re scrolling and join the #WIBookFest and @roomofonesownbooks for an evening with Caro Claire Burke (@caroclaireburke ) for her novel YESTERYEAR, one of the buzziest books out this spring! One morning, trad-wife influencer Natalie, whose Instagram account has amassed 8 million followers, wakes up in a life that isn’t hers. Her home, her husband, her children—they’re all familiar, but something’s off. Her kitchen is warmed by a sputtering fire rather than electricity, her children are dirty and strange, and her soft-handed husband is suddenly a competent farmer. Just yesterday Natalie was curating photos of homemade jam for her Instagram, and now she’s expected to haul firewood and handwash clothes until her fingers bleed. YESTERYEAR is a gripping, electrifying novel that is as darkly funny as it is frightening, Yesteryear is a gimlet-eyed look at tradition, fame, faith, and the grand performance of womanhood. See you on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at @madisonpubliclibrary 's Central Library! Come early as we do expect a big crowd! No pre-registration or tickets required, admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 6 p.m. Learn more at the link in our bio. Burke will be in conversation with Room’s Mira Braneck.

This Mother’s Day, the #WIBookFest reflects on the relationships and family ties that we hold closest to our hearts. Earlier this week at @mplfoundation ’s annual Lunch for Libraries fundraiser event, we welcomed two-time Nation Book Award winner and bestselling author Jesmyn Ward (@jesmynward ) to Madison for a conversation with Nate Marshall about her newest essay collection, ON WITNESS AND REPAIR. In it, Ward ruminates on her approach to both fiction and life, reflecting on the power of the novel, how to raise a Black son in an era of rising divisiveness and cruelty, as well as her own personal tragedies. This year, #LunchForLibraries raised over $165,000 for the festival and gave away 850 books. We’re so grateful for our literary community’s continual support—your generosity is crucial to our ability to host exceptional free programming year after year. Photo Credit: @shannawolfphotography
