β¨β¨COVER REVEAL β¨β¨
i am delighted to present to you the cover for FABLEMAKER, designed by
@gaudyboysu 's Flora Chan, to mimic the sunlight on the pagodas back home. i screamed when it landed in my inbox and i am so happy that this is the face my collection bears as it readies to enter the world.
it feels almost trivial to be posting this right now, amidst fascism, amidst genocide, amidst unspeakable acts of abject cruelty. at a recent reading, esteemed ethereal poet
@iqrak_27 said that home is a place where we can let the unbearable be unbearable. i've been struggling with the concept of home, with myanmar still in the throes of a military dictatorship, with this unforgiving sense of entrapment i feel here in the U.S. but this was the truest thing: home is, without façade, where the unbearable just is.
Fablemaker emerged from this unbearability, this rupture. from my father, whose death at the height of the spring revolution and the pandemic spurred so many of these poems. my mother, who taught me, through her living, how to subvert each fable. my brother, who helped me survive the unbearable.
dear fellow fablemaker, i hope--well, i am no longer interested in what these poems stand to "do" in this world. i think it's important that they just are. that they're here. that through some miracle, i was able to write them, and through a similar miracle, you'll be able to receive them. i hope you hold them with care. i hope they hold you.
preorders are live. link in my bio. much love and ginkgo leaves. ππβ¨
