Last year I stood on that stage as a @startupawardsnational Winner for Food and Drink. This year… I’ve been asked to be a Judge for the 2026 UK StartUp Awards. 🤯 And if I’m honest? That feels slightly surreal. I still feel like I’m learning every single day. Still figuring things out. Still making mistakes. Still building. So to be asked to judge other founders is genuinely a privilege — and yes, there’s a little imposter syndrome in there too. But here’s what I do know. I know what it feels like to back yourself when others don’t. To politely ignore the well-meaning advice from friends and family about getting a “safer” job. To work on something that statistically has a 50-60% chance of failing within three years… and go for it anyway. That’s what the StartUp Awards represent. You are NOT alone! You join a unique group of people who choose the harder road. The brave ones. The bold ones. The slightly irrational ones. The ones who don’t just imagine a better future — they build it. There were days where I questioned everything, and days where I felt so proud I could barely put it into words. This weekend we ran a WheyBetter sampling event in my hometown of Scarborough — but this post isn’t just about chocolate. It’s about something much more personal. It’s about my youngest son, Elijah (age 8) — and a message for any parent out there raising a child with dyslexia. Like many kids with dyslexia, school doesn’t always play to his strengths. But what I saw this Saturday morning reminded why I will never worry about his future again. Elijah joined me to help sample WheyBetter at @cafferoyale and he absolutely blew me away. Where most kids might freeze at the idea of speaking to complete strangers…Elijah didn’t flinch, he owned it. He was confident, kind, and completely in control for three solid hours — talking about the product, answering questions, and smiling from ear to ear the whole way through. Within minutes, he’d memorised my sales pitch. He nailed the key messages and connected with people effortlessly. Elijah may not be able to decode written text easily yet... But his ability to engage, to remember, to adapt — is 10 years ahead of his age. That’s the thing about dyslexia — it’s so often viewed as a disadvantage. But what I’ve come to believe is this: it doesn’t make you less capable, just differently capable. It challenges one part of the brain and strengthens others to balance it out. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world have said the same: 🦈 3 of the original Shark Tank investors — are all dyslexic. They credit their success to the way their brains work because of that diagnosis. 🍫Barbara realised it gave her stronger social instincts. 🍫Daymond developed creative workarounds. 🍫And Kevin calls it his superpower. So if you're a parent reading this — and you're worried about your child's reading levels — take a breath. Help them where they need it…but don't forget to build where they shine. Because the world needs more entrepreneurs, creators and change makers who see things differently. And that starts by showing kids that their differences are not flaws - they're fuel to help make their future WheyBetter! Elijah, you've made your dad proud this weekend and I know this is only the beginning. ❤️

A WHEYBETTER WALK #7 ✅ Six miles, two beautiful bays, one perfect Saturday. 🌊☀️ Our latest WheyBetter Walk took us along the stunning Scarborough coastline — from North Bay to South Bay — with a halfway stop for coffee at @cafferoyale plus a little free WheyBetter chocolate to keep everyone smiling. 🍫💛 It was one of those perfect coastal days… sea breeze, sunshine, and plenty of good chat along the way. Our WheyBetter Walks are open to everyone — all ages, all fitness levels, and yes, all leg-counts (dogs included 🐾).
