Ten years ago, I exchanged numbers with the saxophonist at a jazz jam session. We married five years later. Here’s to another decade filled with live music and dancing. Happy anniversary to us!
I’m so excited to talk to @camille_u_adams as she launches her beautiful new memoir, “How To Be Unmothered,” on Monday 8/18 @booksaremagicbk on Montague St. Join us!
Prepare to be swept away by my friend @cleyvisnatera ’s The Grand Paloma Resort! This novel fearlessly and insightfully dives into profound questions of class, family, and community, challenging our perceptions of luxury and sacrifice. Cleyvis is masterful when it comes to crafting stories that not only illuminate the human cost of unjust systems but also offer radical new possibilities for her characters and, indeed, for all of us. I’m constantly inspired by Cleyvis’s imagination, generosity, and brilliance, and I’m sure you will be, too. Get your copy now!
The Israeli government and military’s intentional starvation of Palestinians in Gaza is a horrifying and devastating act. I will never forgive the cruel and spineless global leaders who enable this atrocity by their inaction. My gratitude goes to all who continue to speak out, contact their representatives, protest, contribute to aid efforts in Gaza, and demand an unconditional and permanent ceasefire and unimpeded aid access. Please keep doing everything within your power to end this man-made mass starvation and death.
Still soaking in the great vibes from an unforgettable week as a fiction fellow @kenyonreview . Teaching with and learning from @marie.helenebertino was an honor and a gift, and our brilliant group of writers blew me away (flamingos forever!). Thank you to everyone who made the week so special—the incredible Kenyon team, the inspiring participants and faculty, and my fellow fellows. My notebook and heart are full. 💗💗💗
14,000 babies could die in the next 48 hours because Israel is blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza, holding tonnes of life-saving food and medicine at the border. This is unconscionable cruelty. How can the world carry on?
On the 77th anniversary of Nakba Day, Israel killed at least 115 Palestinians. And, according to the UN, Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza has left half a million people on the brink of starvation and the entire population experiencing high levels of food insecurity. Meanwhile, the US government continues to imprison and target students protesting this ongoing genocide for deportation. The Nakba is now. The time for resistance and solidarity is now.
Three decades later, I wish I could have a drink with my dad. He had the hottest takes before hot takes, always with a dash of dark humor and a heavy pour of prescience. I’d like to ask him a million questions about the state of everything. Sometimes, thoughts pop into my head that sound like him. “You dig?” he asks like he always did when he wanted to make sure I followed. I’m still following and always will.
