Berlin has long seen fashion as part of a wider cultural conversation. In the fifth edition of Berliner Picks, we spoke with Ani and Carmel, the creators of Avantgarden, about how sustainability is influencing the way designers think and create.
For them, sustainable fashion is not a restriction but a starting point for creativity. In a city where many independent designers experiment with reuse, small-scale production, and alternative materials, Avantgarden approaches sustainability as a space for new ideas and different perspectives.
Their upcoming show on April 24 reflects this approach. It brings together fashion, art, and self-expression, while exploring how clothing can tell stories and still remain conscious of its impact on the world.
