A little taste of Piedmont in the heart of New York. ✨🍇 Spent a beautiful afternoon at @nineorchard celebrating Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti with floral cocktails, refreshing gelato, and stunning skyline views. Light, fragrant, and bursting with notes of peach, orange blossom, and fresh grapes, Moscato d’Asti is the perfect reminder that sweet wines can be elegant, vibrant, and incredibly fun to drink. Thank you to Asti DOCG @astidocg_world and Platinum Media @platinummedia.agency for the lovely invitation. 🥂 #nyc #asti #nycrooftop #nycweekend #whenwine

Last night at Molyvos, we explored a vertical of Domaine Porto Carras @domaine_porto_carras paired with Greek cuisine — 2016, 2006, and 1990 Château Porto Carras. What impressed me most was how clearly the vintages reflected both evolution and philosophy. • 2016 — youthful, structured, and fresh. Limnio + Cabernet Sauvignon + Cabernet Franc working together beautifully to create a “Greek Bordeaux” style wine. More primary fruit, brighter acidity, and a polished modern profile. Paired surprisingly well with beef tartare. • 2006 — my personal favorite of the lineup. More classic and harmonious, with integrated oak, softened tannin, and beautiful secondary development. The wine felt complete. It is savory, earthy, and elegant without losing freshness. Excellent with the lamb cannelloni. • 1990 — the biggest surprise of the night. At 36 years old, the wine was still alive with structure and freshness. Rustic, herbal, earthy, and very reminiscent of mature old-school Bordeaux. Medium tannin, resolved texture, and incredibly food friendly with the grilled lamb chops. A reminder that Greece is capable of producing not only fresh whites like Assyrtiko, but also age-worthy fine reds with real complexity and longevity. Huge thanks to @domaine_porto_carras , @cava_oinos , and @kohasagency for opening these library treasures and sharing the story behind one of Greece’s historic estates. #GreekWine #PortoCarras #WineTasting #VerticalTasting #FineWine

From 2019 back to 1990. A deep dive into the evolution of Greek fine wine with @molyvosnyc and Domaine Porto Carras. @domaine_porto_carras What impressed me most was the vision behind these wines: creating organic, age-worthy Greek wines decades before the global market truly paid attention to Greece as a fine wine region. From the full body white of Assyrtiko and Malagousia to mature Limnio + Bordeaux blend reds from the early 90s, the lineup showed both history and ambition in the glass. A real privilege to taste through the library and experience how beautifully these wines evolved over time. Some bottles were not just wines, but liquid archives of modern Greek wine history. Huge thanks to the team and hosts for opening these treasures to us and discussing the tasting notes @marikasomm @evripidis_ts 🍷🇬🇷 @purplemouthed @kohasagency_carras @cava_oinos @kohasagency #portocarraswine #whenwine #greekwine #foodandwine #winepairings

Blind #Sangiovese tasting with the crew 🍷last Friday! 9 wines | 6 regions | 2 countries | 5 vintages We kicked off strong with @uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino 2021—gorgeous, classic, and set the bar high. a real treat from @vitamin.vino ! Then a surprise: 2021 @merkinvineyards “Shinola” from Arizona (Willcox, 4300 ft, 12.5% ABV, 60% native yeast). Super refreshing, elegant, and great slightly chilled. My first Arizona wine. Of course it is a @purplemouthed wine and thank you for broaden my horizons! Next: 2017 Tenute Tre Rose Simposio (Vino Nobile Riserva). A hot, drought-driven vintage, clearly reflected in the wine. Then a side-by-side of @scoponewine_montalcino Brunello 2019 vs 2020—my third time tasting them in two years, and each time shows something new. Tiny production (4,000 / 8,000 bottles). A new generation in Montalcino focused on expressing each vintage. Stunning winery. 2021 and 2022 look very promising. Wine #6: another curveball—2019 Unti “Segromigno” from Dry Creek Valley (70% Sangiovese / 30% Montepulciano). Rounder, darker, less acid-driven. @untivineyards and thank you @norkap.wine for introducing us more great California wine that not Cab! Then a mystery wine—elegant, bright acidity, great aging potential, but missing the classic Chianti sour cherry note. Turned out to be @giacomo_baraldo_vigneron “Il Passone” Toscana Sangiovese 2021. Tiny production—what a treat thanks @ekrosenberg After 7 wines… still no Chianti Classico 😅 Finally: @tenutacasenuove Chianti Classico 2019—classic producer, great vintage, acid-driven, balanced, excellent value. We closed strong with @ilpoggione 2003 Il Poggione Brunello Riserva (Vigna Paganelli). A hot, selective vintage, but top producer + old vines handled it beautifully. Still ruby (not even garnet), lots of sediment (like vintage Port!). More black fruit than red, firm yet smooth tannins, long finish. Not a typical Brunello—or even typical Sangiovese. Less herbal, more subtle wood influence. A great night, with great friends and a great grape we all adore! #sangiovese #whenwine #blindtasting

Master class deep dive into Chianti Classico today: where tradition and innovation continue to shape one of Italy’s most important wine regions. A great side-by-side look at how Annata, Riserva, and Gran Selezione express different levels of structure, aging, and ambition, while the new UGA system brings sharper focus to terroir and village identity. From bright, savory Sangiovese to layered, age-worthy selections, this was a reminder that Chianti Classico has never been more exciting. 🍷🇮🇹 #ChiantiClassico #gallonero #ItalianWine #WineEducation #whenwine

An afternoon immersed in the world of Chianti Classico at the Grand Tasting @aifiori Great to revisit how the region continues to evolve through the UGA (Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive) system: highlighting village-level identity and terroir and the growing importance of Gran Selezione as the top tier of quality and site expression. Finished with an insightful master class with @jeffporterwine that showed just how much depth, precision, and age-worthiness modern Chianti Classico can offer. 🍷🇮🇹 #ChiantiClassico #GranSelezione #UGA #gallonero @chianticlassico @colangelopr

After a surprise bonus white (not even French, nor from the Rhine), @tonymagro123 followed with a real treat from the Northern Rhône: 2009 Cornas Les Eygats @domainecourbis What immediately stood out was the color: deep, hazy purple, almost shocking for a wine of this age. At nearly two decades on, it still showed more purple than ruby. The nose was unmistakably Syrah and quickly pointed north: pronounced aromas of black pepper, black cherry, blueberry, dust, and a volcanic, mineral edge. It hit several classic markers that made the region reveal itself early. On the palate, the wine had clearly moved into secondary and tertiary development, yet retained impressive freshness and energy. That balance of evolution and vitality is exactly what reminds you how age-worthy great Syrah can be. A beautiful bottle and a strong case for mature Cornas. #Cornas #NorthernRhone #Syrah #RhoneWine #WhenWine

A highlight from our Rhône-themed tasting: 2001 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, @domainedelajanasse generously brought by @norkap.wine This bottle showed exactly why mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape can be so compelling. While younger examples often lead with ripe fruit and elevated alcohol, age brings something far more valuable: harmony. Medium garnet in color, the wine opened with layered aromas of black cherry, blood orange, leather, dried rose, and cherry cola, wrapped in classic Southern Rhône garrigue tones. On the palate, it was fully integrated and complex, with medium tannin, vibrant acidity, and a long, lingering finish. The old-vine depth was evident, but what impressed most was the balance and composure after 25 years. Powerful wines can age. Great wines evolve.Outstanding bottle and a real treat to share. #ChateauneufduPape #RhoneWine #GSM #winetasting

Julien Pilon dimanche à lima 2024 Saint-Joseph Interesting contrast tonight. After tasting the single-varietal Marsanne and Roussanne earlier, this 50/50 blend showed a completely different personality and terrior. More aromatic and expressive on the nose: perfumy notes of honeysuckle, apple cider, ginger candy, pineapple, and quince. On the palate it feels rounder and fuller-bodied, with medium acidity and a subtle orange-pith bitterness on the finish. The improvement point on this wine is We all think this wine is high alcohol but it's actually 13%, which being it into a very good wine category. @julien_pilon A good reminder that sometimes the blend brings different dimension and aspects. #SaintJoseph #NorthernRhone #RhoneBlanc #marsanneroussanne

A rare treat — 2016 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Spätlese in magnum! @weingut_egonmueller_scharzhof Magnums are already uncommon for Riesling, and even harder to find with the classic Mosel bottle shape. We tasted this after a 16.5% ABV Amarone, and surprisingly it was not overshadowed at all. The acidity cut through the palate like a sword, immediately lifting the wine. Then layers of ripe fruit, honey, and lemon unfold, with an extra-long finish. And of course the iconic aged Riesling note — petroleum, Beewax and a hint of honey — almost like stepping into a gas station. A phenomenal 10-year-old wine and a real treat. Thanks to the host for sharing this bottle. @orbiting.deepspace A similar bottle can age well in the bottle. Outstanding Wine. #EgonMuller #Scharzhofberger #MoselRiesling #RieslingLovers

Same producer. Same vintage. Different personalities. Saint-Péray 2021 from Domaine du Tunnel @domaine_du_tunnel — Marsanne vs Roussanne. This is a rare treat from @wines_by_greg for our #rhône theme tasting. As it's very hard to find a single varietal Marsanne and Roussanne, not even mention from the same producer. Marsanne shows earthy, grass, fresh herbal notes with an oily texture, while Roussanne is more floral and tropical with lemon-drop lift and slightly higher acidity and body. Saint-Péray is located south point of the northern Rhône. I can taste the warmth of the climate compare to hermitage. what a treat. #SaintPeray #Marsanne #Roussanne
