With a heavy heart, I announced my intention today to step down as the @worldfoodprogramme Executive Director. Leading this incredible organization and our dedicated teams has been the honor of a lifetime.
I remain deeply committed to advocating for the millions struggling with hunger worldwide.
From Gaza to Sudan and beyond, our @worldfoodprogramme teams and partners continue to put their lives on the line every day, so that others can live. On this World Humanitarian Day, we honor their unwavering commitment and bravery. We must protect those who serve. #ActForHumanity #whd2025
ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE: A WFP convoy, clearly marked & carrying 8 team members, was shot at by Israeli forces near Wadi Gaza despite prior clearances. Humanitarians are #NotATarget!
We MUST have safe, secure access to continue delivering life-saving aid.
Hunger and malnutrition are threatening millions of lives in Sudan.
Nearly 19.5 million people across Sudan face crisis levels of hunger — that’s 2 in 5 — and 825,000 children under 5 are at risk of life-threatening malnutrition.
The international community must move now with funding, access and the political will to stop this crisis from becoming an even greater tragedy.
Such a pleasure to see @nickkristof at the @milkeninstitute . He continues to be a tireless advocate and essential voice for the world’s most vulnerable. We’re so grateful for this. #MIGlobal
📈 Food prices are already shooting up worldwide.
The world is on the brink of a hunger emergency, as the ripple effects of the Middle East crisis threaten the livelihoods of millions of people.
If prices remain high and the conflict continues, basic food staples will be pushed out of reach. Rising operational costs have already forced WFP to stop assisting 1.5 million people and that number could rise to 9 million people in 2026.

Thank you, @wfp_africa for all you do!
The crisis in the Middle East isn’t staying in the Middle East.
The @worldfoodprogramme ’s supply chain hub in Mombasa stores and delivers food for 16 countries—but costs are rising and this lifeline is buckling.
If funding and conditions don’t stabilize, 9 million people worldwide will lose life-saving food aid.
410,000 people. No statistic prepares you for what that looks like on the ground.
I was last here in Dadaab, Kenya 18 months ago — and the situation is more urgent than ever. Families are in dire need of emergency food and investments in self-reliance.
We must act. Lives depend on it.
