I came to the US when I was a little under a year old; when my dad got a job here and they sponsored his H1B work visa. 5 years later, my dad got approved for a green card... Another 5 years later, I officially became a citizen when I was 11 years old... It took my family 10 years to become citizens.
Whenever I see people targeting "illegals" for not doing things the "legal way" I scoff because none of these people understand the timeline of becoming a citizen. You don't fill out a form and get a response the next day or even the next year. This system is beyond fucked and we need to fix it, not target people fleeing their countries in search of a better life in America; just like my family.
Please use your empathy and compassion, families are being separated because of this. This isn't America; we're better than this.
