What a week! Finished recording, mixing and mastering in the studio for my commissioned work that tells the stories of women business owners. What a journey it was to create this piece, never expect it will turn out to be a 19 mins long suite “As a Women…” with five chapters in it. I put together the piece with spoken words edited from the interviews I did with some amazing women small business owners around the world, along with drums, bass and saxophone. (I played a little piano in there too.) My first time composing something that long and producing it myself....wasn’t easy🤪, but I’m glad the result came out beautifully. 💕Thank you @mimijonesmusic and @netatree for the beautiful interpretations that brought my vision to life and made it even better. This trio is a vibe! And thank you Jim and park west studio for the great work. Can’t wait for y’all to hear the whole thing! Swipe for sneak peak! 🎧👀(use your headphone.😺 “As a Women…” now on bandcamp and all streaming platforms!

This episode of Asians in Art features versatile drummer, composer, and educator Wen-Ting Wu. Equally at home hitting in packed music festivals with indie-pop bands and swinging in intimate venues with a trio, Wen-Ting initially left Taiwan after college to study jazz in New York City and never left. With dogged determination, Wen-Ting continues to thrive in the competitive and often male-dominated world of jazz drummers. She’s performed in some of the city’s venerated venues, including Dizzy’s, Smalls, Smoke, and the MET Museum. She’s also a regular member of Frank Lacy’s Septet & Classical Jazz Ensemble as well as the AAPI Jazz Collective. For more on Wen-Ting’s spiritual connection with and expression of the groove of Black American music, go to our 🔗 in bio @aiashow

Thx to the ppl who came out and gave me lots of positive feedbacks, especially on my originals and the stories behind them! This one felt different. Hey! checking in with y’all. Saw an interview where Willow said: “In this dark time in the world, she wants to remind ppl that we human beings are more than all these BS that’s going on. We are caring and empathic creatures.” -So true. We have to hold on to the light and celebrate what we can actually be! And music and love will flow in any situation, no matter what. 🌱

The essence of FLOW. Trying to speak on the drums will always be a life lesson. Embracing what comes at that moment, no matter good or bad, with no fear, no certain answers, but with trust still, will always be a life lesson. Work in progress, either way, we be, we feel and we believe. And that also, will always be a lifelong lesson. 🌱Sending good energy to whoever needs it. 💡😌🔅🟨🟨

First gig of the year was yesterday morning sharing the music of Louis Armstrong with the students led by @jhoelygaray and @ascap (omg first raw pre-K was so cute with their eyes 👀😲 on instruments! lol) 9am drumming was brutal 😂, but was definitely uplifted by them.
Excited for more music-making coming up!

How far can jazz experimentation go? Come find out at the first installment of a new series hosted by the BKCM Jazz Department 🎵
“The New Thing” invites performers to play and speak personally to contemporary forms of improvised musics, encompassing what many people refer to as the “avant-garde,” “free” music or “experimental” music. By bringing these musical forms to the forefront, the series aims to encourage a more robust and wide-reaching understanding of what “jazz” is and can be.
The first performance is THIS FRIDAY, featuring…
🎹Dan Pierson on piano
🪈Elijah J. Thomas on woodwinds and little instruments
🪘Wen-Ting Wu on drums
🎸Mike Harmon on bass

Happy New Year!! 🧃✨ Wishing everyone a peaceful and healthy year ahead. Here’s some Fall and December of 2025 and some thoughts. (I’m not doing no year wrap photos too exhausting lol)
2025 was a hard working year, thank you everyone who I get to connect and make music with. Grateful for you all, communities are forming and I’m so glad I am able to be a part of them. 🥹 Also so grateful for my friends and family (and new friends!), the support we have for each other is priceless! You know who you are. This is so important to me, especially in the world we are living in now, Thank youuu and Love you all! 🫶🤎
Life is certainly not just highlight moments. Challenges are real, I have my lows for sure and you are not alone. Will continue to learn and work on growing my capacity and wisdom, for myself, -and hopefully to give and serve others more and more in the future, musically or in any other ways. We need more love in this world. We got this! 💪💪🖐️ #2026
新年快樂!新的一年希望國泰民安,台灣這片土地能平安順遂,大家身體健康,智慧和愛滿滿,已期待回台灣過年~~😌
