Screw Knobs are large, graphic cabinet knobs modeled after the head of a flathead screw. We pair them here with a large screwdriver for performative assembly. See them in action in our #1939compound #screwknobs #welcomeprojects

[Reflecting on Los Angeles and a photo snapped in distraction Jan. 8, 2025.] As a native Angeleno, growing up we called this fire light. It’s the dusty, orange glow of sunshine through the smokey air. It used to be part of a season, now it seems an omnipresent weather type. These firestorms have forever altered whole communities and erased swaths of the built landscapes we in the studio draw so many stories from for our design work. We grieve for our friends and colleagues and communities who have lost so much, so fast. We grieve for all the homes now vanished. We are doing what we can to help out, to resettle and to hold space. But we won’t grieve for Los Angeles, that resilient old gal— we know she’ll come back as mythic as ever, just tougher.
Sculptural interventions and functional objects drive major interior renovations and a ground-up pool house (ADU) for a significant yet heavily altered 1964 home. Originally designed by John Pugsley it is colloquially known as the Eyebrow House, in the neighborhood because of its jaunty and prominent central atrium roofline on an otherwise blank facade. While in good condition, the house had been striped of all interior finishes leaving a mid-century exterior frame in which to work.
The knickname, Eyebrow House inspired our design of each new space as a playful restoration of the body of the house back to whole. We start with the face and work our way down. A new wet bar introduces an “ear” and “nose” as door knobs and a mirrored “tongue” lapping you from the interior.
