🧡 Journey Through the Forest of Eels 🧡 We made a film, about making our film. Three years in the making, this project was a true labour of love – shaped by the talent, dedication and craft of everyone involved. Here’s a glimpse into how the idea evolved, and the care and attention that went into every frame. What began as experiments with new art styles and animation techniques in the studio, became a short film that has since screened at festivals around the world. Full credits and case study in the comments 👇

A few of the final frames from our short film – Releasing Hope Created to inspire action and awareness worldwide, the film will support the @worldmosquitoprogram 's mission to protect communities and save lives. Working with the awesome illustrator @eleonoraasparuhova the artwork for the film was created in a textured hand-drawn style, to give the story a human, personal feel. Over a 10 month period, the team at Flow painstakingly brought the characters and world to life using a variety of techniques, including: frame by frame, 2D and 3D animation, key-framed animation and particle simulations. All of which create an expressive story-led animated film that evokes both the looming presence of the disease and the power of community to act.

IT'S RELEASE DAY!! We're really proud to announce the release of Releasing Hope – a lovingly crafted animated film that brings to life the fight against mosquito-borne disease. A story told without any words, and from the perspective of a brave young girl. Directed by Karl Doran and produced by the Flow team, with an original score by acclaimed Danish band Efterklang, the film tells a powerful story of courage, community and scientific innovation. It shines a light on the groundbreaking Wolbachia method and the global effort to stop diseases like dengue and Zika killing more than 1 million people and infecting 700 million each year. Created to inspire action and awareness worldwide, the film will support the World Mosquito Program (WMP)'s mission to protect communities and save lives. #releasinghope

💙 Releasing Hope 💙 It's nearly time to share a project we're all really proud of, that we've been working with the @worldmosquitoprogram on for the best part of a year. Mosquito-borne diseases kill more than 1 million people and infect up to 700 million each year – 1 in 10 people globally. Dengue is the fastest spreading mosquito-borne disease in the world, infecting 400 million people every year. In the communities worst affected many describe living with the 'spectre of disease' hanging over them. Or living in its shadow. We took this idea as inspiration to create a 'spectre' made of millions of mosquitoes to visualise the invisible threat. Here’s a teaser trailer for the film, which will be officially released next week. #releasinghope

Some of the final frames from our film for @worldmosquitoprogram 💙 Mosquito-borne diseases infect up to 700 million and kill over one million people annually. Dengue is the fastest-spreading, infecting 400 million a year, and is a major global health threat. One study predicts over eight billion people could be at risk of malaria and dengue by 2080. WMP is tackling this crisis with an innovative and proven solution: the Wolbachia method, which prevents mosquitoes transmitting diseases to humans. Communicating this to global audiences, and inspiring governments to act, required something more emotionally engaging than a technical explanation. Together we've created an emotive, cinematic, wordless animated film as an awareness/advocacy aid to drive intrigue, introduce WMP/Wolbachia, and encourage action. The film uses only visual storytelling, music and sound design to tell the story, ensuring global accessibility without any language barriers.

🩵 COMING SOON 🩵 Can't wait to share an epic project we've been working on with the @worldmosquitoprogram (WMP) over the last year. It's the most ambitious project we've ever had as a studio – an emotive, cinematic film for a global audience, that tells a story of hope. A film that transcends borders, cultures, and languages – told without words, just visual storytelling and a beautiful, musical score by the fantastic Danish band @efterklang The film will be officially released in a couple of weeks, in the meantime here's a poster we designed for it. #releasinghope

💥 IT’S HERE! 💥 After a year of screening at film festivals worldwide, we are finally able to share the short film we made! This studio project took about three years to complete, in between our client work, and while it’s only two and a half minutes long, it was a lot of work! We set out to challenge ourselves, experimenting with new art styles and animation techniques. Drawing on horror and folklore influences, the film is set in an enigmatic, dark land, carefully crafted to evoke a palpable sense of foreboding and ominous threat. All the characters in the film are based on the Flow team, our spirit animals! And the story is about the power of creative collaboration — the mysterious alchemy that happens when like-minded people unite with a shared purpose. This film would not have been possible without an incredibly talented team of Flowsters, both past and present, including: Guy McKinley Winston Tsang Emma Shaw Chelsea Tantum Inês Margarida Elena González Sánchez Nadia Kawafi Guilherme Gomes Jordan Painter James Lawson Rosa Kennedy Josh Taylor Huge thanks as well to Wesley Slover who did an awesome job of the sound design, which is such a crucial part of the film. Full case study coming soon...
