As part of our ongoing Day in the Life series, we were proud to host @krmcduffie at @brightbegindc where early educators shared their personal stories about why they became teachers and why it is so important to sustain the Pay Equity Fund and child care subsidy program.
We are honored and deeply grateful to @dcjackandjill for their generous donation in support of DC Action’s mission. 💙
For generations, Jack and Jill has been rooted in a timeless belief: investing in children, families, and community creates lasting change. We are proud to partner with an organization so deeply committed to equity, service, and uplifting Black families across #WashingtonDC. Thank you for standing with us as we work to ensure every child and youth has the opportunity to thrive.

Today @spacesinaction mobilized dozens of #washingtonDC childcare providers, families and children to tell @councilofdc to reverse @mayor_bowser ‘s budget cuts and restore funding for early childhood education💜
Hi from the Wilson building 👋🏼
Today we gathered with friends and partners to remind the DC council that housing is a human right, and they need to fund it! We need to invest in our communities, and make sure that the #FY27 budget allocates the funds we need for housing services.
In just days, #WashingtonDC is set to begin a child care subsidy waitlist — leaving expecting parents and families with young children facing even more uncertainty.
For many parents, especially in Wards where families are already stretched thin, child care is not optional. It is what makes it possible to work, go to school, keep housing stable, and know that a baby will be safe and cared for.
As Aaliyah Wright, Parent Fellow with Under 3 DC, shared: families are not asking for luxury. They are asking for stability. For safety. For a chance.
DC Council must act now to fully fund child care at $177.1 million in the FY27 budget and protect access to affordable, quality child care.

Today, parents, pediatricians, early educators, and DC workers came together at the Wilson Building to urge the DC Council to protect child care, paid family & medical leave, and HealthySteps — a program pediatricians rely on to support babies, young children, and families.
Huge thank you to our partners at @dcjwj , @ganhayeled , @jewsunitedforjustice , and @dcchildrenslaw for showing up and speaking out alongside advocates from across the District!
And yes — we delivered candy microphones to every Council office with one message: speak up for DC families and workers in these budget hearings. 🎤🍬
