Thank you @wbtv_news for your coverage!
It was a full week at the cafe! Coffee was made ☕️, customers served 👨🏻, floors swept 🧹, lists completed ✔️, shirts folded 👕, windows washed 🧽, pastries sorted 🥐, and days made brighter! 🥰
Ahh, the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans. Did you know that the coffee at Cakeable Cafe doesn’t just taste good—it also does good?
Our partner, @haerfestcoffeeroastingco , is right in Davidson, North Carolina. They hire team members with IDD, providing training and job opportunities. We grind their beans fresh daily, so you get the best cup possible.
So when you buy your latte at Cakeable Cafe, you’re supporting inclusive employment from bean to cup. You’re part of the story!
We are recently celebrated a significant graduation—not for an intern this time, but for our Executive Director, Ken Norton! Ken will be transitioning from his staff role to a seat on our Board of Directors, where he will remain a vital part of our mission and vision. As we merge with ZABS Place, Bentzion Groner will step in as the Executive Director of our unified organization.
With Ken’s continued guidance on the Board and Bentzion’s leadership at the helm, we are more prepared than ever to serve the Charlotte community!
Ken’s dedication to seeing potential in every individual has shaped who we are today. We are grateful that his expertise and passion will continue to influence our work as we build a permanent home for inclusive employment in Charlotte.
Charlotte Catholic School came to visit! Cakeable interns Isabella and Avery, who are both part of the school, helped us lead the tour and share about their experiences working for Cakeable. 🙌
Celebrating Gina’s 6 months at the cafe! 🤩 Gina is one of our five OG Cakeable interns, having started years ago in the bakery. When she made the transition to the cafe earlier this year, we weren’t quite sure how she’d like it—but it didn’t take long for her to make it her new “office”!
It’s been so special to watch Gina’s baking skills carry over while she learns new ones, and even more fun to see her connect with customers. She truly makes people’s days brighter with her joyful attitude and goofy, fun personality.
Happy 6 months, Gina! We’re so proud of you! 🙌
We are joining forces! 💙 We are so excited to announce that ZABS Place and Cakeable are officially uniting as one organization. For years we have worked side by side as friends, and now we are coming together to create a unified future for inclusive employment in Charlotte.
By bringing our teams together, we can expand our training opportunities to include both hospitality and retail under one roof. This move also allows us to be even better stewards of your support, ensuring that every dollar goes further to build a mission that will last for decades.

Help us warmly welcome our newest intern, Tee! Tee’s dream job is to work as a peer mentor for people who have disabilities. She loves her independence and loves loves music! 🎶
Elizabeth is Cakeable graduate #6️⃣2️⃣! She is hardworking, focused, and takes pride in her work. She may have started with a few nerves, but it didn’t take long for her smarts and no-nonsense work ethic to shine through. Next stop: food service worker with Multiply Food Service at Concord Academy. They’re lucky to have her, and we know she’s going to crush it wherever she goes! 💥
Where do Cakeable graduates end up? 👀
In real jobs, all across our community.
We don’t just prepare adults with IDD for work. We also support them as they succeed, with ongoing support and regular check-ins for both employees and their managers.
We’re so proud of our graduates and grateful for the Charlotte-area employers creating inclusive workplaces!
