We are beyond grateful to announce that Autism Tree has been awarded a $50,000 grant from Ability Central to support our new initiative—Voices Unlocked: Expanding Access for Multi-Modality Communicators. This investment is so much more than funding; it is a powerful statement of belief in our community and the fundamental truth that speech is only one form of communication. With this support, we are launching a permanent AAC Lending Library to provide 15 robust communication systems to our participants at no cost. This allows families to bypass the typical 6–12 month insurance delays that so often stand in the way of a child’s voice. Every family we serve is strengthened by partnerships like this. We are deeply honored to stand alongside Ability Central to prove that oral fluency has no connection to intelligence. Together, we are creating a world where every individual is seen, heard, and respected. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for investing in a brighter, more inclusive future for the neurodiverse community. @weareabilitycentral

We’re excited to share that the Stanford Chariot Program has been awarded grant funding from @weareabilitycentral to support our work using immersive technology to help autistic and neurodivergent children with needle and blood-injection-injury phobias. For many patients, anxiety during medical procedures can stop care from happening. For neurodivergent children, those moments can feel even more intense. Chariot brings virtual reality and other immersive tech to meet each child where they are when faced with a medical procedure. A tailored experience can shift attention, reduce distress, and help a child move through a procedure with more ease. This project will study how immersive technology can serve as exposure therapy for children with needle phobias, with a focus on neurodivergent youth. “We are thrilled to receive this grant from Ability Central to support our work supporting patients with needlephobia,” says Thomas Caruso, MD PhD, Stanford pediatric anesthesiologist and Chariot Co-director. “At the Stanford Chariot Program, we harness the power of novel immersive technologies to develop transformative treatment strategies so that we can provide the best care for every patient.” “Proud to support Stanford Chariot’s work exploring immersive tech like VR to reduce barriers for neurodivergent youth and their families,” said Griffen Stapp, Executive Director, Ability Central. Thank you to @weareabilitycentral for investing in this work.
