PROTECT UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH
This is Lucho and his family. I got the blessing, to shoot them alongside my first sculpture, “𝘊𝘐𝘚𝘕𝘌”, and hear their story, their dreams, their nightmares and the hope of a better tomorrow for their princess. They came to the United States just a few weeks ago all the way from Ecuador. A long journey with strong faith for a better life and better opportunity for their daughter. These aspirations are cut short by modern racist/segregational and deeply rooted divide-and-conquer US tactics, whom then also use forced rhetoric inhumane removal proceedings— a country whom claims FREEDOM FOR ALL as a stapled slogan. Apart from the death-risk journey & now due to COVID and health measures, US immigration has instead allocated electronic tagging monitors on both Lucho and his wife’s ankles as a form of tracking and surveillance— “sparing” them from border concentration camps. My heart goes out to them and specifically our future migrational youth— their pain is mine. Samantha your light, your cry for your father, your opportunity is not forgotten and thank you for the gift your parents have given me— 50 years from now, when you look at my image, it will all make sense. For now life has mysterious ways of fabricating something ethereal; from darkness come stars.
Lucho and his family await trial for deportation with a court date set for tomorrow, Tuesday August 31st 2021.
