Have you watched the new docudrama Dirty Business on channel 4?
Based on a decade-long investigation into England’s water companies, Dirty Business tells the stories of real whistleblowers and people whose lives have been destroyed after encountering sewage-polluted water. It is deeply moving, eye opening and essential viewing.
It was reported by the Guardian newspaper in 2024, that since 1990, when it was privatised, Northumbrian Water had paid £3.7 billion in dividends to its shareholders and created a debt of £3.5 billion. Privatisation? No thank you. We’re being neglected and so is our beautiful environment. Bring back public ownership, put water back into the hands of the people - people who actually care.
Water brings life, wonder, joy, creativity…it should have rights of its own. We met by water, grew up in awe of it and everything it nurtures and shapes. There are no words…but there are always actions we can take:
