In March, WSF staff participated in a National Water Security Roundtable in Ottawa, which was an opportunity to hear from folks with joint interests around protecting fresh water across Canada and to share insights from the work of the Watershed Security Fund in BC. This included the importance of collaboration, partnerships, and uplifting UNDRIP commitments, which have been central to the success and impact of advancing shared goals for watershed security in BC.
The roundtable followed the Government of Canada’s March 22, 2026 announcement (World Water Day), launching the development of Canada’s first National Water Security Strategy.

Last week, partners from the First Nations Water Caucus, @fnfc_bc , and @refbc had the pleasure of attending the siwɬkʷ Water & Climate Forum organized by the @okanagannation . Chiefs, community members, government representatives, researchers, and water leaders offered inspiration and shared knowledge on pathways for working together to safeguard our waters.
We would like to thank the organizers for hosting us and all the attendees who stopped by the WSF info table to learn more about our vision for healthy watersheds and thriving communities.

Watershed security ensures sufficient clean water for ecosystems and communities, honouring water’s inherent rights. On March 22, 1993, the UN established World Water Day to bring awareness to the importance of freshwater and to restoring and safeguarding watersheds.
At the Watershed Security Fund, we strive for healthy watersheds and thriving communities, abiding by the belief that the long-term prosperity of all life depends on resilient watersheds and acknowledging that watershed security is a shared responsibility, requiring everyone within the watershed to actively contribute to its care and preservation.

In honour of #WorldWetlandsDay yesterday, we’re thrilled to share a Fraser Valley-based project focused on habitat restoration and collaborative stewardship.
The Sts’ailes First Nation is leading a project to install floating islands in the Miami River, which flows into Harrison Lake. This WSF-funded project aims to improve water quality, support harvesting of culturally important species, encourage knowledge-sharing within Sts’ailes and nearby communities, and strengthen relationships with local governments.
