If you haven’t seen our current exhibitions, this is your last chance! Don’t miss seeing it before they close on Saturday, May 16. We have Gallery Hours Thursday-Saturday 12-4pm. We have loved having the beautiful work of Zoe Brester-Pennings @zooopy and Meryl Engler @meryle_art on our walls - we highly recommend you stop by! Wrapped prints available by both artists - very reasonably priced too. Slides 1-4 by Zoe Brester-Pennings Slides 5-9 by Meryl Engler Buck Soft, the third chapter of the Buck Wilde series by artist Zoe Brester-Pennings @zooopy is up in the main gallery. Combining elements of printmaking, found object, and the tactility of quilting, this exhibition presents a series of quilted wall hangings that loosely depict the narrative of Buck Wilde. Also on view in the Waterloo Arts Cafe is When I Become A Tree, works by Meryl Engler @meryle_art . Her hand-carved and printed large-scale woodcuts are nearly 8 feet tall! Dazzling in detail and craftsmanship, Meryl’s many depictions of trees, some on hand-made paper made by the artist, are delicate, quiet masterpieces. Not to be missed!

This June, the Waterloo Arts Gallery and Cafe will be featuring Blooming Tides, a Group Show curated by Davon Brantley @davon.brantley . The show opens Friday, June 5, 6-9pm during Walk All Over Waterloo. From the Curator: “This exhibition features Black, AAPI and Latinx Artists and is intended to explore the interconnection, influence and/or impact of their cultures amongst each other through various media. This exhibition allows viewers to see the works from these three cultures inform, influence and/or align in themes related to their experiences in life and their careers. Thus allowing for discourse on indirect and direct connections amongst marginalized groups, exposing shared worlds despite difference and distance.” Originally slated as a week-long pop-up, the exhibition has now expanded to a full six-week exhibition featuring the work of nine artists: Nicole Alvarez @_.nicole._.a Ashton Burton @ashton.l.burton Liana Gonzalez @lxana_marxe_ Yasmeen Kwan @theartofkwan Nick Lee @sirnicklee Younghyeon Ryu-Hurst @younghyeonryu Sebastian Sosa @__seba5 Lauren Sylvia @spillthe.art Jurnee Ta’Zion @noigjurnee

Join us for May’s Walk All Over Waterloo on Friday, May 1 from 6-9pm! If you haven’t seen our current exhibitions, here’s the perfect chance. We’ll be offering Mini-Tours of both exhibitions at the top of each hour! In the Main Gallery, we are featuring Buck Soft, the third chapter of the Buck Wilde series by artist Zoe Brester-Pennings @zooopy . Combining elements of printmaking, found object, and the tactility of quilting, this exhibition presents a series of quilted wall hangings that loosely depicts the elusive narrative Buck Wilde. A former rodeo clown, dairy spokeswoman, and equinophobe, Buck Wilde is a wanderer who has come to roost Cleveland, Ohio. Come for the art, stay for the fun, leave with a souvenir. Also on view in the Waterloo Arts Cafe is When I Become A Tree, works by Meryl Engler @meryle_art . From the artist: “When I moved to Akron, Ohio in 2019, I became enamored with a very peculiar tree in the back parking lot of the business next door to where I lived. It really should not have been there, but I watched it grow and change with the seasons - the same way I had grown and changed over time, and noted the beauty in its stubborn resilience. And so I chose to memorialize this strange thing, commemorate its life, and in turn, give grace to my own journey.” The Waterloo Arts Cafe will be open with beer, wine, cocktails and NA items available. Slides 1-3: Works by Zoe Brester-Pennings Slides 4-6: Works by Meryl Engler
