As forest thinning increases to support watershed and ecosystem health, abundant round pole materials are becoming available for use. This hands-on workshop explores how round pole timber framing can offer a practical response to both forest management and the housing crisis.
Learn best practices for harvesting, storing, and building with round pole. Hands-on skills for resilient living and ecological stewardship.

Day long or weekend(+) learning & tending with the Forest - a study and practice of reciprocal living within a forest ecosystem & watershed.
Over the course of our workshop we will be focusing on:
🌲Approach to Regenerative Forestry, covering the different considerations of landscape literacy that are essential to ethical decision making.
🌲Understanding Ideal Harvest Time
🌲Chainsaw Safety and Operation
🌲Using Block and Tackle to guide tree fall and move your harvest out of the forest.
🌲Classroom and Hands on Tree Felling Techniques.
🌲An Introduction to Preventing Wildfire and Preparing for Good Fire.
🌲Touring broad scale acreage of tended forest with a focus on both good and bad fire in the landscape.
🌲Forest Reciprocity. The human/non human agreements of exchange.
The Hands on Skill Building Practicum is an opportunity to go beyond the workshop setting and gain experience in the field. No two tree falls are the same, each tree presents different considerations to a safe and predictable fall. Gain experience during this week of guided mentorship falling trees. The work in the practicum will serve Oak Woodland Restoration and produce Timber for Building.

A multi workshop (& practicum) series on forest management & round pole timber framing; Restoring relational reciprocity and building home on the land.

Workshops and practicums build on each other to create a comprehensive arc of learning and skill building. Offers can be attend on their own, or as a full series. In addition, we have month long work trades available from May 13th to June 13th. As well as discounts for locals and women.
All workshops include 3 organic protein rich meals per day, forest camping, & access to community spaces (sauna, showers, indoor & outdoor zones).

Here’s a bit of our way…and you’re invited to join us for four days of community collaboration on spring land projects, from fruit tree grafting to burn piles & more. It’ll be a humble time of good food, good tea, good company, and sharing in the art of many hands serving a larger whole.
March 12-15th in Willits, CA.
