Timber Frame Workshop Weekend 2 ::: Great Success!!!
Things are getting more technical. Which is fun, and challenging at times.
We are loving offering this format of workshop, with space to integrate between weekends, and deep dives on the workshop weekends.
Our intention when designing this layout of workshop was to make it more accessible for our local community. 80% of the workshop is friends who live in the county and it is feeling so rewarding to be learning these skills, and growing community with our neighbors.
We have one weekend left, April 25th - 27th. If you’re interested in attending, reach out.
We ate so well! Had an epic full moon fire with the crew, full of stories and deeper connections. And as always, are getting dirty and immersed into the craft of natural building!

From mornings by the fire learning the concepts and enjoying breakfast, to afternoons hands on felling trees, peeling poles, learning to use the tools, and chiseling…what a wonderful weekend! To amazing lunch and dinners shared over good conversation, followed by siesta.
Well nourished and off to a real good start of foundational learning for success ahead!

Round Pole Timber harvested from forest health treatment is reducing fuels in the forest and building structures with local sustainable materials.
In Northern California forests need management and care from the history of logging, over-grazing and mid/absent management of regrowth. Amazingly, as we woe towards building a multi-aged forest and thinning excessive fuel growth, an abundance of building materials become available. These materials are round-poles, often Fir, which are a great resource for timber-framing earthen structures.
In April 2025, we are offering a comprehensive 3 part workshop in Northern California.
Very few contractors are using these building techniques. We are excited to be teaching these skills and increasing the availability of these ways of building.

Around 30 years ago I noticed that there were not very many maple trees near the seasonal creek on my property. Since I was collecting tree seeds for the UC DAVIS seed bank at the time I planted some and used them to stabilize the bank where it gets too close to the road. This years fall foliage seems especially bright and beautiful!
