Thrilled to share that my short film Land Sailing has been officially selected for the 19th FIRST Film Festival happening 20-28 July in Xining, China! FIRST is a leading platform in China focuses on discovering and promoting young filmmakers and their works. With the JURY PRESIDENT this year Isabelle Huppert @isabelle.huppert and the FIRST PIONEER jury includes Argentine filmmaker and artist Eduardo Williams (winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival for the Human Surge), Li Yang 李洋 (Dean of the School of Arts, Peking University) and actor and independent musician Amber Kuo 郭采洁 @amberkuo2_019 It’s been a huge surprise to have my work back in Film Festival field as a contemporary artist. Growing up near CHINA FILM ARCHIVE 中国电影资料馆, I always see films as my first and most private enlightenment to art. And I really look forward to setting sail on this journey back alongside filmmakers, artist, creators and film lovers — and burn through the summer together!!! 🚢🌊

Poster and some installing sneak peeks Sister I Wanna Go Home 8.10 - 15 叁拾空间 Sense Gallery @sensegallery30 798 Art Zone, Beijing China Curator: @yutinnnnn_ It is really special to have my first solo project and also my first exhibition back in China in the first week I landed in Beijing after two whole years in the UK. I titled this exhibition “Sister I Wanna Go Home”, the lyrics from “Sister” by Zhang Chu, which is also the kazoo sound in my film Land Sailing where in the middle of the ocean before I see land. That Kazoo is the Siren sound, the mixture of the desire of going home and historical trends of going west. I had my jet lag gradually adjusted after 5 days of installing, being in the art space is a cushion enclave, blurring the clear strangeness I felt when first back. In a way, it is this exhibition helping me to going home instead of me going home to have this exhibition. Is also the first time for me to work with gallery and construction workers. I am fully impressed how Chinese construction workers in 798 developed a systematic knowledge of installing and how neat and efficient they finished the building. Also, this process reminds me how cost-effective materials and manufacturing is in China. However, this brings to another making logic, and may result in an inertial isolation with making for artists… There will be an artist tour at the opening 10th Aug 16:00, together with wandering guest Qingtong Li @qingtong2190 ; followed with a talk on creation about visa and diasporic experience with He Zhang @ishouldeatbreakfast on 11th Aug, a panel discussion on identify, speed and mobility with JunShen Wu @inthewaterweflow and Ruochen Xi @ruochen.xi on 14th Aug. 16th April at Karaoke lounge V3 :::::: !!! @wangjif Les Learn: From Queer Comrade to Lesbian Bar is a performative lecture that combines stand-up comedy, literature reviews, and theatre to chat about Chinese lesbians, from history of the lesbian movements to community pop culture, from nail clippers to menopause, women’s time and dilemmas, with sincere confessions and serious learning. The performance will also include an excerpt from the Ziyi’s recent play Mountains’ Sex, a Communist lesbian story. ThRead’s Chapter 1 has begun. 🧵🔛 We’ve invited two artists. We’re delighted to be working with Ziyi Wang (@wangjif ). - Ziyi Wang is an is an artist, filmmaker, performer and researcher, currently based in London and Beijing.   Her work explores themes of identity, borders, and mobility, drawing on personal memory to navigate the fissures of historical, political, and geographical structures. Her practice spans video, performance, and installation, blending elements of documentary, comedy, stand-up, and theatrical scenography. Her works often begin with a simple, naive imagery and use humor as a method to negotiate complex systems. Her latest project explores an intergenerational inquiry into intimacy and power through the interplay of archival material and mime.   Ziyi graduated from MA Fine Art Media, Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, and holds a BA in Philosophy from Beijing Normal University. Her works have been presented in London, Beijing, Berlin, Hong Kong, Edinburgh, Southampton and other cities. Recent projects include solo exhibition Sister, I Wanna Go Home at Sense Gallery, Beijing; the Relation de Voyage online screening programme at SLQS Gallery; Ruthin International Arts Festival; and the Barbican Arts Group Trust. Ziyi’s performance spans theatre and stand-up comedy, have taken place in venues including Hoxton Hall and Theatre Deli. Her short Land Sailing has been official selected for 19th FIRST International Film Festival.   Ziyi’s research focuses on labour and exploitation within the contemporary art field, with contributions presented at the Anartist Reading Group and Asymmetry Art Foundation Collaborative Writing and publishing; She have been involved in the translation work of the new column on speculation at Qilu Criticism. Ziyi also works as an active facilitator and organiser for critiques and seminars, being one of the co-founders of AfterShool, Ziyi hosted several seminars in Goldsmiths, Bow Arts and Lychee One on topics including gender, queerness and labour. - More from Chapter 1 will be shared soon. 再回到北京，再回到胡同，在小屋放映的时候有鸽群巡回，飞过四四方方的天空。仰望的时候分不清方位，像一汪水，难怪有天井这个词。碰到的许多人，发生的很多事情都让人想到周嘉宁的《基本美》。 结果三天在法超喝了四顿，又见xrc，update回来后各自在西宁和香港的经历，以及遇见的那些从各大洲各地来到/返回的人们。在多地经历许多语境与口音的拒绝后，胡同里还可以这样自然地拥有不纠结专业性，青年人一起面对面坐下来的真诚感，好久违。x拿的精酿叫“返场”，她说今年的胡同又有种世界主义的感觉。 世界主义的返场，我喜欢这个形容。 Screening in Beijing hutong, with pigeons soaring in the sky frame. （黑白图是饺子拍的）

Screening and talks at FIRST International Film Festival This is the summer that I got my first DCP, it’s been surreal to see my work in a cinema. In this process, facing the bigger screen back in China with wider audiences, the medium and cultural context shifted, yet creating a closer reading about “why am I here” and “where am I now” - and that’s exactly what this film, Land Sailing, is about. I feel so happy to be selected in FIRST PIONEER unit with so many shorts and filmmakers that I really like, together with the best programmer Zijiao and our cutiest jury. Thank you all for this summer.

In this era of fluidity, we all embark on personal odysseys, perpetually negotiating our identities, carrying fragments of our origins while being irrevocably altered by our journeys. ‘Another Odyssey’ brings together three artists who chart these migratory passages and their profound impact on selfhood. They invite us to linger in these transitory spaces and contemplate how migration not only changes our relationship to place but also reshapes who we are. Join us at the opening reception!
