Wane One | Throwback Story
Back around 1995, I worked on the Cold World video as part of the art direction team (Green Turtle Productions)with Maria Delgado. The shoot was in Harlem, near Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.
I was by the truck waiting for Maria to give the signal so we could unload and set up the first shot. After a while, Maria came over with GZA and someone else. She introduced me as the best graffiti artist on set and said any graffiti in the video would be done by me.
GZA was like, “Nah, we already got the best graffiti artist—and he’s down with the Wu-Tang Clan.”
At that point, the other dude looks at me and asks, “What you write?”
I said, “Wane One.”
He looks back and goes, “What’s up, Gano Grills…”
I’m like—oh, word?!
So I sketched out the letters, and we ended up painting together. That’s how I met my brother Gano—we’ve been peoples ever since.
A year later, because of Gano, I met Power from Wu Wear, about a week before the Wu Wear store opened… but that’s another story. RIP Power
