16000 feet above sea level, at the shoulder of Friendship peak near Manali, Himachal pradesh. After 4 days of trekking through beautiful valleys and moraine, we pitched our base camp beside a glacier, just below the shoulder of the friendship peak. On the summit day, we started at 4 am and hiked up to the shoulder. Wearing crampons and walking on the 40+ degree ice was an exhilarating experience. We reached the shoulder just when the sun was being shy at the horizon. And the views are here for you to experience! Shot using @insta360 one X in September 2020 by @rakesharr on his trek to summit the Friendship peak. Do share the reel for more people to see and experience! 😄 #wandermile #wanderlust #instagood #explore #traveldiaries #travel #travelgram #rusticrambler #traveltales #getlost #natgeotravel #incredibleindia #Himalayas #himachal #friendshippeak #summit #trekking #timelapse #basecamp #loveoutdoors #lovetotravel #campinglife #adventuresoul #insta360onex #shotoninsta360 @himalayantourismofficial @offbeat.vacations @niharshrotri @bhavikavhad @omi2411_official

How are you all doing? It's been such a long time since we posted here! But what better video than one from Himalayas for a comeback reel! Back in September @rakesharr headed for a summit expedition to Friendship peak with a small group of 4 people. It was an exhilarating experience since we were the only people in the entire valley which is usually filled with 100s of trekkers and an equal number of tents dotting the landscape. It was such a welcome break to trek in a popular valley with just 8 people including guides and porters! Himachal has, is and will always be out go to place! The first trip from Wandermile was in Himachal and this summer we're planning to restart our signature offbeat trips to Himachal. DM if you'd be interested in being a part of the trip. The time-lapse shot on @insta360 One X. Do share uf you liked it and if you'd like to go here! #wandermile #wanderlust #instagood #explore #traveldiaries #travel #travelgram #rusticrambler #traveltales #getlost #natgeotravel #incredibleindia #Himalayas #himachal #friendshippeak #summit #trekking #timelapse #basecamp #loveoutdoors #lovetotravel #campinglife #adventuresoul #insta360onex #shotoninsta360 @himalayantourismofficial @offbeat.vacations @niharshrotri @bhavikavhad @omi2411_official @rakesharr

And we're back! After a long hiatus of over 8 months, we're now back to organizing offbeat trips. We did a camping trip close to Chennai (200 kms) for this new year with a closed group of people who had already traveled with us. The location was quite offbeat and the experience was truly #wandermile! Away from the crowds, in a beautiful meadows we welcomed the new year singing, dancing in the company of like minded people. Also, we have a new addition to the Wandermile family. Please say hi to @van.to.nirvana , @rakesharr 's new van that he's taking out to travel through India over the next year or so. We had an absolute blast getting a sneak peek into the #vanlife, watching movies by the campfire, chatting through the night sitting in the cosy comfort of the van while it was freezing outside! Stay tuned for more updates from our end. Some exciting trips lined up for the immediate future! Conversation with Venkat Ganesh of @bikepacking_trekker about his journey from being in the corporate to biking through Zanskar back in 2011 and the experiences as an English teacher in Vietnam. Some great learning from a true traveller.

Koh Tao is a tiny island in the Gulf of Thailand that is considered a paradise for Scuba divers and travelers who like something offbeat. The island boasts of a variety of activities apart from Scuba diving itself. Freediving, Cliff jumping, Kayaking, Snorkeling, hiking, beach walks, pub crawls, food walks, biking, offroading are some of the activities prevalent in the island. Freediving has always intrigued me. The idea of diving deep to over 30 meters in a single breath was mind boggling as a concept and initially I did not think it was possible. But man oh man! What a meditative experience it turned out to be underwater! Yoga, pranayama and mindfulness is all part of freediving and this is what made me fall in love with the activity. Although a little difficult and overwhelming to begin with, it gets really amazing with practice. For those who aren't already aware, freediving is an underwater activity where you learn how to dive deep holding your breath. Human body (in tune with the mind) has an insane ability to adapt the body underwater. Once inside water the body kicks in what is called the mammalian dive reflex and makes it possible for us to dive deep without any external equipment. The world record holder in free diving, Herbert Nitsch, dove 214 meters deep holding his breath for almost 9 minutes! Yes. It is possible. My trip to Koh Tao was planned around a freediving course that I signed up for through Apnea Total. Apnea Total is one of the best places to try your hands with freediving. Along with Freediving we also explored the island quite a bit and found this amazing place to do cliff jumping right into the ocean. The cliff is in a part of the island called Tanote Bay and you have to swim around 300 meters to get to the huge rock cliff and climb up the vertical face of the cliff with the help of a rickety metal chain. You jump is around 8 to 10 meters high and it is the most exhilarating experience to jump into the ocean and be welcomed by swarms of colorful fishes! After all the adrenaline pumping activities, you can get to one of the many beach shacks and sip on a cup of coffee or your favorite drinks, while watching the gorgeous sunset!

Sagarmatha | Chomolungma | Mt Everest The highest mountain in the world is referred by many names in different local languages. But the reverence the locals have for the towering mother of all mountains remains unchanged! As a kid I've always been baffled by the superlatives of the world. And especially with the world's highest mountain. I remember being awestruck reading the story of how Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mt Everest and what a huge feat it was! But never did I imagine that I would get the chance to see the mighty Everest up close, for I never knew that the travel and mountain bug would bite me later on in life. Since the time I set my foot on the Indian Himalayas for the first time in 2011, the trek to Mt Everest Base camp was always in my mind! And then in 2017, without much planning, I set out on a solo trek to the base camp! It was one of the most endearing experiences in life. The experience of seeing the mighty Mt Everest for the first time, just before reaching Namche Bazaar, is etched in my memory! I get goosebumps even thinking of that moment! It was an exhilarating moment! A true pilgrimage for me! After the first time, I went on to take groups on the trek to the base camp and each time the experience has been unique and all the more exciting! Here's a video compilation of the trek to the Everest Base camp with different groups. I know it's not the best video in terms of quality, but it is still something that is special! This year we couldn't do the trek owing to the Pandemic. But the the mountain is still there and we will go back soon enough! Original content. As a travel brand, we've always been very wary about what we post on the page. It's easy to get a freepik or a shutter stock account and post 100 amazing pictures that we personally know are nowhere close to reality, but will attract a good number of followers. But is that the right approach? I definitely don't think so. Especially if you're a travel company and if you're involved in taking people to places, you need to showcase reality. Since inception, I've been very clear about posting and showcasing only original content. All the pictures and videos on our feed are either clicked by one of our team members or a fellow traveler, whom we duly credit. We never take out travel pictures from the internet and post them to showcase one of our trips. What you see is what you get. And if you see something mind blowing, what you get is going to be mind blowing. Coming to this picture. This is from our exclusively curated trip to Vietnam last October. We go on this mind blowing road trip through lesser known parts of the country where we get to witness these mind boggling sceneries! Trust me when I say it looks 10 times more amazing in real! Now that Vietnam is going to start evisas for 80 countries, we can't wait to go back and experience the beautiful places and endearing people of Vietnam! 😄 This picture was shot on @oneplus 6 and edited using @googlesnapseed

One of the craziest Scuba diving experiences ever. . . No. It's not what you think. Read on to know the story behind this dive . ;) . . So when I went to Jordan for the first time to do a recce and create an itinerary, I decided I will do a scuba diving course. Doing a @paditv course has always been in my mind and I was thinking of doing it somewhere in Indonesia or Thailand initially. But then on little research I found out that the Red Sea in Jordan and Egypt had amazing visibility and top class diving school. So during the trip, I signed up for an advanced Scuba diving program and chose to specialize in wreck diving. The red sea near Aqaba had a few wrecks. One was a huge ship and another was this plane wreck. For the first dive we chose this plane wreck and my instructor told me there's a surprise. I was really comfortable with diving after the first few dives and she let me explore the wreck by myself. And she gave me a signal to go inside the plane and come to the cockpit while she takes a picture. And while I made my way inside the wreck and to the front, I noticed the back of the helmet. Intrigued, I went on to have a closer look to see a full skeleton in the pilot's seat. Perfect position, with the hands in the control. Although it gave me a bit of a shock initially. I noticed my instructor grinning from outside while I realised it was a mock skeleton placed there to give divers a sudden rush. Spent sometime clicking pictures before coming out and finishing the dive! After the dive the instructor told me that was a way to check if the divers are able to take such surprises while in the water and stay calm and composed. Well, I passed the test with flying colors and went on to dive at the same wreck twice on the same trip! Scuba diving is an exhilarating sport and I just love the kind of calmness it induces in me. Have you done scuba diving before? . . . Throwback to this amazing sunset at the Tam Coc river in Ninh Binh province of Vietnam. After a beautiful boating trip through the uniquely landscaped Tam Coc, we returned to the hotel and a couple of us headed to see the sunset by the banks of the river. There we were welcomed to this scene of the boats being docked and tied together with the sun setting in the background! Little did we realize then that the boats would be permanently docked for a long time, just a few months after, owing to the #covi̇d19 pandemic. But it's heartening to see that Vietnam has come out strong in the flight against the deadly pandemic and has been leading the way all along, with super effective measures right from the beginning, resulting in an exemplary report card that reads 0 deaths! Here's hoping that we all get through this crisis stronger and in a better shape! This too shall pass! Until then, #stayhome and stay safe. Remember, all the places that we love and want to visit will be in a much better shape with all the breathing space that nature has given! . . . . . . #wandermile #wanderlust #instagood #explore #traveldiaries #travel #travelgram #rusticrambler #traveltales #getlost #natgeotravel #Vietnam #southeastasia #ninhbinh #tamcoc #boats #sunset #vietnamtravel #polarr #corona #lovetotravel #loveoutdoors #outdoors

We all must have come across this line "Man proposes, God disposes" sometime through our life. Never once has this line been as relevant as it is today! We all made a 100 travel plans, made all arrangements, went through 10s of travel blogs, videos, insta handles and made notes of all the amazing places that we have to go to this summer. And it was all amazing, until the universe decided otherwise! In a blink of the eye the world turned topsy turvy. And all that we could do was just stare, wide eyed and just stay put. Although, in a personal level, we feel distraught and helpless, in a larger perspective, what's happening is beautiful, to say the least. Yes, there's been a huge loss to businesses (including ours), lots of people going jobless, many bearing the brunt of dreams coming crashing down etc. But we will all get over this, stronger and better. No doubt. The world has seen worse and has come over all obstacles, and this too shall pass, soon. This is the universe's way of asking us to slow down and not be too feverish of our little lives. But while we wait, let's accept what is happening and understand that it's for the better. The world is right here, the mountains are right there, the beaches are right there and every place that you planned to go to will remain! Just stay calm and stay safe during these times. We will get over this together and come out stronger than ever! The picture is from the Everest Base camp trail, where we would've been this day, if not for the lockdown. No complaints. We will be there soon, once everything settles. Until then let's relive the beautiful memories! #wandermile #wanderlust #instagood #explore #traveldiaries #travel #travelgram #rusticrambler #traveltales #getlost #covid #stayhome #thistooshallpass #love #everestbasecamp #natureishealing #timeout #acceptance #corona
