Content warning: suggestion of physical abuse on a child through bruises on an emaciated body It would have been my mum's birthday today. This is a comic I made years ago based on the stories she used to tell me about her childhood. Despite all of my guilts and discomforts about making comics about my relationship with my mum, she had actually given me the go ahead to write a book about her childhood, so I'm ok with sharing this. I'm just sorry it's rather grim. However, making it created a container for me to feel the emotions attached to these stories that I'd stored in other areas of my psyche for years. I will say more on this in coming posts. This is 1/4 Happy birthday mum! #mum #birthday #autobiocomics #intergenerationaltrauma

Loved @pencils4tea tonight as always. I have three materials I work with - coloured pencil, mechanical pencil, and blackwing pencil. I love how, in the first few seconds of each person posing, they inspire me to pick up one of these first in some intuitive feeling toned kind of decision making. Love drawing. Thank you so much Kirsty, everyone who posed and @g.kins for the playlist which was so enjoyable and relaxing. 2-5 min portraits to the lengths of songs. #portraits #pencils #tea

Right. Been really itching to do this. Doing it... DRAW TO EXPLORE...Doom Scrolling Sat 23rd May 10-1pm £8/12/18 Scrolling is a solo sport. One of the most insidious things about it is the fact it's called 'social' media, and it does indeed pool in gargantuan amounts of the human race, but we experience it by ourselves at the behest of our individual algorithms. What if we turned that on its head and shared our feeds with each other as part of a Draw to Explore workshop? Not sharing a link with a friend, not reposting, but responding in real, shared time to what's going on in our feeds. The addiction is horrible. I open my apps and feel a sinking feeling, as I sink myself further by the flick of my thumb. I get drawn in when I want to be drawing! At the same time, I've also had some wonderful life changing experiences because of social media, connecting with and building community. There has been an entwinement between screen and life that's unfurled and bedded in over the last couple of decades, and I for one want to look at that afresh. My theory is...by dissecting this beast in a Draw to Explore workshop, looking at it from every angle with a pen to paper eye, sharing stories and talking about it, we give ourselves new associations. We might even change our relationship to it altogether! I know I'd like to. If you've been to a Draw to Explore before, then you will be familiar with having an array of playful and experimental prompts, and you will know we explore through process and the end drawings are mementos. Draw to Explore...DOOM SCROLLING will be no different. If it's your first time, come with an open mind, pens, pencils and paper. Colour always encouraged. A zoom link will be sent out the day before. Linktree in bio for link to book or copy and paste this: https://buytickets.at/walliseates/2018945 Hope to see you there ironically via a screen! #draw #explore #doomscroll #socialmedia #community #irony

Always a pleasure @pencils4tea An evening of songs no longer than 4 minutes, making for many a sketch. Here's a selection. Thank you so much Kirsty and @hajenson for the songs! And everyone who posed. Was a pleasure to draw you. Oh and a shout to @hunterpaperco who sent me my lovely two Palamino blackwing pencils that I received today and have since made their way into these drawings. Thank you for the sweets too! 💕 #portraits #sketches #pencils #tea

Old Hauntings: PLUCKLEY The final part! Feel free to catch up with the others on my profile. On the first part I wrote that I did this trip to Pluckley last year, it turns out it wasn't last year at all, it was 2023!! I actually started it while I was in Pluckley, and finished it over these last few weeks, so that makes a lot of sense as to why the way I've drawn myself at the start is quite different to how I've drawn myself at the end. I love that drawing changes.  #autobiocomics #Pluckley #ghosts #cowboys #trains

Dear ole mum having to put up with me drawing her all the time. First drawing was from when I was about 7, the two colourful ones I did when I was 21, and the last two are from when she was terminally ill. I love how the first and last show her widow's peak hairline. I didn't realise until this last month or so that I also have this, as I've had bit of a recovery recently from my trichotillomania!
