Here's our theme for this year!!! On #internationaldayofactionforrivers we launch our theme Sounds of a River. In 2026, we invite you to walk and listen. Reflect on the sound of flowing water, record your river’s soundscape, create a playlist for your walk, or use sound to highlight the challenges your river faces. The theme is open to interpretation. At your walk, use sound to celebrate the beauty of your river and/or reflect on the challenges it is going through. Let your river inspire you.

💧Walking Rivers 2026 – Río Turón Hoy hemos recorrido uno de los ríos más importantes de Málaga: el río Turón, un ecosistema vivo que mantiene agua durante todo el año y alberga una gran riqueza natural. Brusseleirs are river people 💧 To celebrate @fishmigration day and @walking_rivers day, our Brussels office organised a walk along one of the city’s often forgotten waterways, the Molenbeek. In partnership with @cozenne_cosenne , we explored the hidden presence of rivers within the urban landscape and reflected on the importance of protecting and restoring these ecosystems. Through collective discussions and on site observations, participants discovered the history of the Molenbeek and the city of Brussels, the challenges faced by urban rivers today, and why restoring ecological continuity matters for biodiversity, migratory fish, and future generations. Reconnecting with local rivers also means thinking globally about river fragmentation, biodiversity loss, and the barriers that prevent aquatic species from following their natural migration routes. 🚶‍♂️🌿 Walking Rivers en Berisso El sábado 16 de mayo se realizará en todo el mundo una acción tan simple como poderosa: caminar nuestros ríos y canales urbanos para conocerlos, valorarlos y protegerlos. 🌎 Ese día miles de personas recorrerán más de 120 rutas en 27 países, en el marco de “Walking Rivers”, una iniciativa internacional que busca visibilizar la importancia de los ecosistemas fluviales urbanos y reconectar a las comunidades con sus cursos de agua. Desde el Espacio de Educación Ambiental y Patrimonio Natural, dependiente de la Dirección de Cultura, Berisso formará parte de una de las rutas seleccionadas a nivel mundial. Te esperamos en esta caminata por la orilla del río Nazas, un espacio para conectar con el agua, observar la naturaleza y descubrir los sonidos que habitan el río: el viento entre los árboles, las aves, los insectos y todo aquello que muchas veces pasa desapercibido. Walking Rivers es una iniciativa internacional que busca acercar a las personas a los ríos a través de caminatas colectivas, promoviendo la reflexión, el cuidado y la defensa de estos ecosistemas. ¡Nos vemos en el río! 🌊👋

Këtë vit, Kosova po i bashkohet për here të parë lëvizjes globale #WalkingRivers, së bashku me 25 vende nga e gjithë bota. 💧 Nga harta botërore deri te lumi Lepenc, kjo nismë i lidh njerëzit përmes ecjes përgjatë lumenjve për të rritur ndërgjegjësimin për rëndësinë e mbrojtjes së ekosistemeve ujore dhe natyrës. EcoZ do ta përfaqësojë Kosovën me një ecje përgjatë lumit Lepenc në Brezovicë më 16 maj. 🌿 ——————- 🌍 Rivers connect us beyond borders.
