Engineering 111 Cardboard Showcase 📦✨ Students in Engineering 111 closed out the semester by presenting creative cardboard-based projects built through hands-on design and iteration. Working within specific constraints, teams transformed simple materials into functional prototypes that emphasized problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering fundamentals. The showcase highlighted the full design process—from initial ideas to testing and refinement—and showed how engineering concepts come to life through creativity and collaboration.

Wake Engineering Capstone Showcase 🚀 Huge shoutout to all the teams who spent the entire year designing, building, testing, failing, fixing, and finally bringing their projects to life. The amount of creativity, persistence, and late-night effort in every single project really showed this Wednesday during their showcase. It’s been incredible watching everything come together and seeing all that hard work pay off in one place. And a big thank you to all of our sponsors and donors for making this event possible and supporting our engineers every step of the way.

Winston-Salem Expands Solar Energy Use at Fire Stations ☀️🚒 Yesterday, our Sustainability Department and Fire Department celebrated the completion of solar panel installations at Fire Stations 3 and 19. By the end of the summer, four fire stations will be powered by solar energy, improving efficiency and lowering operational costs. Did you know? The City is also partnering with @wfuniversity on a solar-battery trailer designed to provide mobile power during emergencies. Engineering students at Wake Forest designed and built the trailer, which can be deployed during power outages to help residents charge electricity-dependent medical devices. The unit will be housed by @cityofwsfire and used in emergency situations.

Join us in wishing Team Bridgerton luck at today’s Student Steel Bridge Competition at NC A&T in Greensboro! These Wake Forest Engineering students designed and fabricated their own steel bridge from the ground up—welding, metal cutting, and every detail completed through their own skill and hard work. Today, they’re competing against Clemson, South Carolina, and engineering schools from across the Carolinas in the American Society of Civil Engineers Student Steel Bridge Competition. We are so proud to see the Wake Forest University Department of Engineering represented on this stage today! 🛠️💛🖤#WakeEngineering #SteelBridge #ASCE #FutureEngineers

Senior Saturday: After graduation from Wake Forest in May 2026, Stamp’s Scholar Max Schellhammer will move to Raleigh, North Carolina to work as an Overhead Transmission Engineer with the Kiewit Corporation’s Power Delivery sector. He will be designing large, long distance, electrical tower lines connecting different communities and industries. “Coming into college, I doubted every one of my abilities, and compared myself to others frequently. Through the mentorship of my professors and the support of my friends, I have since found myself much more confident, well-spoken, and social,” he said. As an engineering and music double major, he splits his time between Wake Downtown and Scales Fine Arts Center. Outside of classes, he works at the Innovation Studio at Wake Downtown, and is a member of the Spirit of the Old Gold and Black marching and pep bands. This spring, he shared a behind-the-scenes look at his life on campus. Build A Bed Day was a success! 🛏️✨ Wake Engineering and fellow Wake students came together to build 16 beds for A Bed and A Book, helping provide children in the Winston-Salem community with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. We were even joined by Mayor Allen Joines for this special day of service! We’re incredibly grateful to be part of a community where everyone showed up, worked hard, and made a real impact. 💛 #WakeEngineering #BuildABed #CommunityImpact
