I never thought I would make it this far or that my book, Almost Sunset would be this celebrated, but here we are. I’m forever grateful to everyone that’s picked up a copy and championed it on. Wow! I’m proud to announce my next comic will be my first major published book. Join the Main Library on Monday, April 20th at 4:00pm to meet writer and graphic novel illustrator, Wahab Algarmi! In this event, Mr. Algarmi will guide storytellers of all ages find that sweet spot in their stories and art. He’ll have two fun exercises to teach you how to edit your art and story to get just the right message across in your work. This workshop is recommended for storytellers of all ages, as it builds off each person’s own abilities! So join Wahab for a fun activity as he challenges you to think a little differently and get out of your drawing and writing comfort zones! All drawing materials will be provided. The first 25 families will receive a free copy “Almost Sunset”. Yikes! I don’t know how my schedule got so crammed this month, but it has in all the best ways! I’ll be part of a free lecture about Yemeni American roots this Saturday, thanks to the #oaklandpubliclibrary . Make sure you register for the free event at the link in my bio! Then on Sunday, I’ll be tabling at the #sacramentobookfestival2026 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. I’ve never been, but the people putting it together are really dedicated and there will be a ton of authors and food options for people. I learned this one from the internet and the kids love it. It’s ritual now. Every April fools day, I draw a mean face on the jug and tell the kids not to drink the milk, because it’s gone bad.

@deangus and I had a great time at the @schulzmuseum this past Saturday. We had a nice turn out for our lecture and I think Dean even got a couple of words in with all my yammering. I was excited to see my old friend, @gageopdenbrouw who made the trip out just to say hi. It’s still an honor to have my friends support my book, Almost Sunset. Gage is a fantastic painter and I always looked up to him in my art studies. So it’s even sweeter when you manage to impress your idols with your work. Again, the staff at the Schulz museum were amazing to me and Dean, where it felt like being a cartoonist meant a little more. Being around the art of the Peanuts gang also felt familiar and safe to me, a piece of my childhood fully realized. I can’t wait to visit again. Many thanks to @maryshyneonline who showed us around and taught us a bit about how the Schulz / Peanuts legacy carries on. We got to check out the offices and see where Schulz called home in Santa Rosa. We even got to draw a bit using his tools. He was a master of the craft and it was so difficult picking up a crow quill after all these years, but it was an honor and a privilege! Mary’s debut published work, You and Me on Repeat is a fun time travel romp about two estranged friends working together to repair their friendship and get back home. I loved it, yo will too. And if you haven’t seen Dean’s book, Cassi And The House Of Memories, please do yourself a favor and pick it up, it’s a gorgeous and personal piece of art inspired by his father’s fight with dementia. He almost had me in tears on stage recalling my grandmother and her dementia. Finally, one last bit of great news which I’ve been sitting on, waiting for our museum visit: both Dean’s and my book have been selected for the prestigious Texas Mavericks Graphic Novels Reading List. Thanks to the @txla_1902 for including us! I’m proud to be on there and happy that me and my new book buddy, Dean, made the list. 2025 was an incredibly strong year for new authors (I’m one of ‘em!) and I look forward to growing with my new friends and classmates like Dean and Mary. #almostsunset #cassiandthehouseofmemories #youandmeonrepeat #comicsreadinglist

Wow! What a fantastic day yesterday at the @schulzmuseum . Thanks to all the staff that treated me and @deangus so kindly. The pride in carrying on the legacy of Peanuts and Charles Schulz at that museum really stands out and is a testament to the people that work there. I can’t wait for a return trip to enjoy the museum at a more leisurely pace. If you’re even a casual fan of comics or peanuts, I think it’s a very interesting part of American history. It’s a peek into someone’s work that transcends art and takes it to the level of becoming iconic. And for artists, we get to see art that holds such confidence in its craft even if it’s often unfairly described as simplistic in both execution and content when it’s anything but. If you remember Peanuts as silly kids fodder, I recommend you pick up some of the collections out there and read it for the first time again as an adult. Charlie Brown is an amazing character that shows off both his flaws and apprehensions in full view, making him as realistic as any one of us. Also special thanks to fellow debut author and Peanuts staff cartoonist @maryshyneonline for the officer tour. It was so much fun to talk shop and learn and see more about Schulz and the Peanuts brand. It’s great to know the Peanuts gang are still popular and thriving. Mary had her own killer year last year with her debut graphic novel #youandmeonrepeat about a couple of friends figuring out their relationship while stuck in a time loop. It’s some frantic, nerdy fun. I promise some more pics from our trip and a bit more news tomorrow about or event.
