“Playing with Fire” feels dangerously familiar to an Aries like me…a creature happily ruled by flames, instinct, and the exquisite thrill of touching what might burn. ⚡️ We don’t just play with fire; we negotiate with it, we flirt with it, we sometimes become it. So when a dear friend @leo.dorsch whose taste and intuition in art is so sharp, texted me on her way to an exhibition in Berlin, telling me, “You need to see this,” I obeyed. One look at Lewinale Havette’s work and I immediately understood why. @lewinale Her exhibition treats the body as a battlefield, a confession, a threshold, where tenderness meets violence, desire meets power, and memory meets resistance around the same flame. These women don’t shy away from fire; they face it. They refuse to be consumed. They turn vulnerability into strength, memory into muscle, pain into something almost mythic. Fire here isn’t destruction, it’s clarity. It’s the alchemy of what survives after everything unnecessary has burned away. Had to share it. 🔥 Aries things. On view: ,Playing with Fire’ until February 15th @vrbgallery in Berlin Dealing on a larger scale with the dynamics of relationships - how we tend to pour into each other and tear each other apart. The painting explores the complexity of human connection and acknowledges that relationships are never perfect. There are so many layers to them, which is why this piece is flooded with almost every emotion. @lewinale

As a West African woman, Havette is dedicated to redefining the portrayal of womanhood as a site of spiritual reclamation. Her practice draws from the suppressed languages of West African spirituality, ancient ways of knowing that were buried beneath colonial and religious systems. In reawakening these traditions, her work speaks to women who have migrated across worlds, often estranged from the spiritual lineages that once guided them. Each painting becomes a gesture of remembrance and return, a quiet act of empowerment through self-knowledge. By confronting these narratives, Havette invites viewers to engage with a more nuanced understanding of Black femininity and migrant identity, offering a rich, multifaceted perspective on the human experience. Opening 8th of November, 2025 @vrbgallery @lewinale

We’re thrilled to announce ‘Playing with Fire’, the first solo exhibition of Lewinale Havette at VRB Gallery — presented in collaboration with Palo Gallery, New York. As a West African woman, Havette is dedicated to redefining the portrayal of womanhood as a site of spiritual reclamation. Her paintings explore the body as both medium and message — a field where emotion, memory, and power intertwine. This exhibition marks a special moment for us — our first transatlantic collaboration and a celebration of an artist whose work radiates strength, vulnerability, and vision. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this to life — from Berlin to New York. @palogallery @lewinale @paulhoratiohenkel @leonievonracknitz @moritzbaers
