For centuries, villages have welcomed spring by raising the Maibaum (Maypole!), a towering, decorated tree symbolizing growth, renewal, and a fresh start. Today, it’s still a national holiday (called Tag der Arbeit aka Labour Day), marked by music, dancing… and yes, plenty of beer. 🍻
At von Trapp Brewing, we’re carrying on that tradition the best way we know how: crisp, refreshing lagers brewed with Austrian roots and Vermont soul.

Great lagers start with water 💧
While exploring the von Trapp family property, our founder Johannes von Trapp came across an 1898 USGS map marking a spring deep in the hills behind the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort. That spring now feeds our brewery, flowing through underground pipes, powered entirely by gravity.
Here’s where it gets interesting: the mineral profile of our spring water is almost identical to that of Plzeň, Czech Republic—the birthplace of pilsner. Soft, balanced, and ideal for showcasing delicate malt character and noble hop expression.
It’s the kind of water that doesn’t just make beer, it defines it 🍻
