@ebo.taylor 's music isn't just something you hear—it's something you feel. The polyrhythms, the horns, the message. Spinning some of his finest works (both as a front man & a producer) on the impeccable sound system at @jazu.bar this saturday. If you're unfamiliar, here's a quick history lesson: Ebo Taylor is a Ghanaian guitarist, composer, and producer who helped shape Highlife and Afro-funk from the 1960s onward. He worked with @felakutiofficial 's Africa '70, arranged for Pat Thomas, and created a solo catalog that stands as some of the most vital music to come out of West Africa. His music feels like a conversation between tradition and innovation. This will be a dance session paying tribute to a true architect of modern African music. #jazz #highlifemusic #saltpond #love #ghana #southlondon 📸 - @msmelloni

Following last year's packed out Brazil Africa session with @farout_recordings founder Joe Davis, @volta45_ invites @dj.amy.b meet for another deep session tracing the deep musical links between Africa and Brazil. The selections of these 2 Djs come from years of serious digging, collecting and cultural work. Born in São Paulo and now based in Lyon, DJ Âmy B is a DJ, vinyl collector and cultural producer with a deep-rooted connection to Brazilian music. Her work is grounded in research, dance and a real commitment to sharing the full spectrum of Brazil's sound. She is the founder of @coletivo_carnavalia , a high-energy party dedicated to Brazilian dancefloor sounds, she holds a residency on Radio Nova Lyon and has played across festivals and dancefloors in both Europe and Brazil. Her sets are rich, rhythmic and full of character, moving between rare cuts, roots music and modern sounds with ease. Volta45, aka Bernard Johnson-Tackie, is a Ghanaian-born, London-based DJ, record collector and archivist, known for blending sounds from Africa, South America and the French Caribbean into deeply percussive, high-energy sets. His work as co-compiler of Borga Revolution and wider research into West African music runs through everything he plays. Volta45 has continued to build out a series of nights at Grow rooted in live music and global connection, inviting artists such as @scorpiossudan , @fofoulah_music and plantfoodband From Sudanese funk and afrobeat-infused live shows to future-facing jazz and Senegalese rhythms, these sessions have explored the meeting points between traditions, diasporas and dancefloors. The Folks ( @thefolksmusic_ ) is a vibrant Nigerian jazz ensemble forging a powerful new sound at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. They make their debut appearance at @totalrefreshmentcentre , this is certainly one not to miss. 🎷🔦🎹 At the heart of their music lies a deep reverence for Nigeria's rich indigenous rhythms—from the complex polyrhythms of indigenous Yoruba sounds to the flowing patterns of Highlife and Afrobeat. The Folks doesn't just play jazz; they engage in a musical dialogue where ancestral heritage speaks fluently with the voice of the present, creating an exciting and wholly authentic auditory experience. #jazz #nigeria #london #yoruba #people #together

“Bravely Adventurous” – The Guardian “FOFOULAH are properly outlandish, teleporting the listener to some West African metropolis a hundred years in the future;this one’s fierce on every level.” - MOJO I am pround to invite @fofoulah_music a London / Bristol-based future jazz outfit signed to @glitterbeat_records Their music is inspired by a cosmopolitan mélange, incorporating elements of jazz improvisation and electronic music. By mixing traditional Senegalese rhythms with dub basslines, sci-fi synths, and sabar drumming - they create a cauldron of intense, hypnotic grooves. Having headlined the West Holts stage at @glastofest and performed at the @roskildefestival Festival, Fofoulah’s sound is unique on the UK music scene. Like the complex cities they inhabit, their music is shaped by diverse sound-worlds and cultures. I will be Djing all night for the aftershow party. Good music guaranteed as always They play @growhackney March 13th. Ticket link in my bio!

Belated Happy Birthday to Ebo Taylor! My relationship with @ebo.taylor is not just one of personal acquaintance, but of profound and lifelong inspiration. It began not with a biography, but at a concert my eldest sister took me to at the famous Silver Cup music venue in #Accra when I was about eight years old. The first time I saw and heard Ebo Taylor on stage with Pat Thomas and Lola Everett—that was the first time I heard "Odofo Nyi Akyiri Biara" from his second album, My Love And Music. That infectious, hypnotic groove didn't just enter my ears; it rewired my pulse. He is the spiritual link between the foundational works of @felakutiofficial and the modern global funk scene. Fast forward to 2006; I saw him again in Frankfurt, courtesy of Samy from @analogafricarecords , and that is where our personal and music business relationship began. From spending time with him in his picturesque seaside hometown of Saltpond to sorting out contracts and licensing for reissues, it has been an incredible journey. In 2012, myself, @chief_commander_yaaba , and Oli Hurez decided to host him and his band at the New Empowering Church in Hackney for his very first-ever headline UK show—what a party it was! Ebo Taylor is more than a musician; he is an architect of feeling, building bridges between highlife’s sweetness, Afrobeat’s fierce social commentary, and the cool sophistication of jazz. As the years have passed, my appreciation has deepened into reverence. The late-career rediscovery of his work by a new global audience felt like a vindication of a truth I’d always known: greatness resonates across decades. Happy Birthday! #ghana #jazz #highlife #word #afro
