april 30 today. another year, 51 years now since a country reunified, a war won, a war lost..lives torn apart on both sides. it’s difficult and confusing when I think how this has shaped my life, as a result of it having shaped my parents lives. then i remind myself, they’re still living thru it. it wasn’t generations ago. that wound is still fresh, that pain, fear.. that loss.
i guess thinking about it doesn’t help leave it in the past. should we? dominos lined up and knocked over, passed on to the next generation. the year did go by quick. plenty of distractions, there was real joy too. and it wouldn’t be joy without pain.
im sharing some personal photos of my parents when we went to Vietnam. there’s a quiet strength i see in them. perseverance i witnessed in my upbringing, that i kind of witness in all their actions. idk i think about them a lot more these days. how they were just kids figuring life out for the first time, how we were all figuring this shit out for the first time — no guide book, no history except what we’re writing. idk… tell your people you love them, show them that love however you can.
