Last Friday, Sjoerd Vocking said his goodbye to his studio at @shebangamsterdam in a spectacular way with an amazing light show called Ride or Die. Unfortunately I was unable to attend that Friday. But he repeated the show last Sunday for a small group of people, so fortunately I got the chance to see it after all.
As a bonus, we got another mini-concert from @yah._ahm_ , a young cellist from Syria who just recently moved to the Netherlands. And the amazing dancers from House of @bodega.nl were also present for a photo shoot and gave a great performance!
Sjoerd’s work includes everything between art and architecture, always with a sustainable approach. In the two years that Sjoerd had his studio at this location, he has had beautiful collaborations with various organizations in Amsterdam Southeast:

🌘 RIDE OR DIE
Een avondlichtreis ter afsluiting van mijn residentie bij SHEBANG
📍 SHEBANG – Hettenheuvelweg 8, Amsterdam📅 Vrijdag 30 mei 2025🕕 Inloop 19:30 / Experience start om 20:00
Na weken bouwen, denken, zweten en staren naar gloeiend plastic en ideeën die pas ‘s nachts oplichten, is het tijd. Tijd om te laten zien wat er groeide in de schemerzones tussen kunst en techniek, licht en donker, controle en overgave.
Op deze avond open ik mijn werkruimte bij SHEBANG voor één keer.Geen white cube, geen koordjes – maar een submersive lichtlandschap.Een ritueel. Een afgrond. Een grap. Een ode.
Ride or Die is het slotstuk van mijn residentie, maar ook een start. Een eerste proeve van lichtobjecten en installaties die hun eigen wetten volgen. Of het nou design is, kunst, of iets ertussenin — dat mag jij bepalen.
Kom. Kijk. Voel. Blijf hangen. Neem een drankje. Misschien zelfs een lamp.
