surreal and so real…
I moved to Austin 8 years ago from dusty ole’ West Texas. A bright-eyed girl without a direction. Through meeting friendly faces of Texans, I discover what I love (music, backlot cigs, poppers, maps, foodheads tomato coconut soup, dinner parties) and what I don’t like (merging on I-35, tech bros with virgin truck beds, festival traffic, condo jungle).
But somewhere in between it all, this city gave me a sense of belonging. I’ll never forget the infamous balcony at @pearlstreetcoop in 2021. A housemate (hi liry!) was patient enough to teach me what the buttons and knobs do. It was an ordinary afternoon, yet it quietly cracked me open.
Eight years of becoming and now I’m playing @sxsw for the first time. I can’t place the right words for how I’m feeling now, but that’s okay because music is always better at saying it anyway. I never want to stop. I’m so grateful. Thank you!
