It was an honor to be selected as one of 30 creators for YOASOBI’s latest music video, "PLAYERS," produced in celebration of the 30th anniversary of PlayStation®. i simulated split flap display in houdini. i've been fascinated by electronic mechanical displays for some time now. split flap display remain one of my obsession after years of seeing makers on youtube rebuilding this legacy display system with modern tech. being a larper, i simply do not have the ability or enough willpower to build this thing IRL, unfortunately. but i did what i do best! building a software solution to interesting problems. all the important components of a split flap display are simulated nearly 1:1 to the real thing. the unidirectional stepper motor, the cards, and the flipping mechanism are all done with solver SOPs in houdini (plus some VEX). no physics simulation on this one since it'll get expensive very quickly, so the motion itself is pretty much deterministic, despite the system being fully dynamic. lighting, camera, and final render done in blender. #houdini #sidefxhoudini #b3d @sidefxhoudini @blender.official

2025 was a bit of a special year for me. lots of change, lots of personality defining moment, and lots of growth as well. ❤️‍🩹 i want to thank all my friends: work friends, party friends, friend friends, and especially friends in the intersection of these friend categories (you know who you are) ❤️‍🩹 i would like to thank all partners, clients, and everyone else i might have came across in 2025.✨ going into 2026, i'm hopeful that we will be even better and continue to improve ourselves. big things coming! <- i am serious 👀 anyway, i made this scene quickly to take a little break from work :) i designed this character with @csmcbliss at the end of 2025, and it looks like i might see her more often in my personal works throughout 2026 <3 created in Blender, Houdini, and DaVinci Resolve.
