The year 1996 stands out as a moment of intense technological innovation in this playful realm, marked by the “dot-com bubble.” That same year, Bandai released Tamagotchi in Japan. With a minimal interface, the Tamagotchi serves as a virtual pet that inevitably dies. The game was based on sustaining rather than winning. El programa del cuarto de proyectos de PALMA es curado por Escombro @eeescombro Tequila Siete Leguas invita @sieteleguastequila — Offside - Alicia Valladares @vl.alca Project Room Opening: Wednesday, January 28, from 8 to 11pm Offside brings together a body of work that reconfigures the imagery of 2000s PC video games as a symbolic backdrop for the present. The landscapes, objects, and characters allude to intertwined and deprogrammed game systems, transformed into scenarios that follow a simulation without resolution. Exhibited at the group show GAME, GAMBLE & PLAY @hilbertraum 19.9-28.9.2025 “Payoff Matrix”, composed of four parts that represent four alternative endings within a ludic-subjective narrative constructed from images of the artist’s personal archive. In these works, Valladares revisits the technique of resin coating on canvas, adding heat transfer and photo transfer, maintaining kinship with smooth screens and collagraphy. From disordered compositions, non-linear arrangement of characters and elements, through multiple layers of resin among them, the artist — under a logic of finding meaning within the game — questions the function of visual language and free play in artistic development. 1.-Payoff Matrix series III/IV, 2025 Mix media on canvas coated with epoxi resin 28 cm x 22 cm 2.-Payoff Matrix series I/IV, 2025 Mix media on canvas coated with epoxi resin 28 cm x 22 cm 3.-Payoff Matrix series IV/IV, 2025 Mix media on canvas coated with epoxi resin 28 cm x 22 cm 4.-Payoff Matrix series II/IV, 2025 Mix media on canvas coated with epoxi resin 28 cm x 22 cm

💥SAVE THE DATE Vernissage Friday 19.9 at @hilbertraum 18-22 hrs💥 Game, Gamble & Play a group show curated by @ellen.deelaine @sascha_boldt and @holmfriebe 🫀🫡thank you very much for the opportunity to be part of this amazingly talented selection of artists. “You don’t have the cards. No other sentence characterizes the present so well. We are back in an age of geostrategic game theory. At the same time, gamification is increasingly drawing us towards our infantile play instinct. At the center of the exhibition is the game as a concept and scope for action. Game refers to the structured game with clear rules, gamble refers to the risk and the use under uncertain conditions, play emphasizes the free, creative game without a fixed goal. The works on display examine how these different forms of play are translated into artistic processes. We are showing eleven artistic positions - from painting to digital art and installation.” ♠️♦️🃏🎮👾🖲️
