With heavy hearts, we share that Burd has passed away at the age of 110.
He lived a remarkable life defined by love, war, grief, and a commitment to showing up for others.
Getting to know the nation's oldest person so intimately has been transformative for us, and has taught this young filmmaker so much about how to make the most of your life. As he once told me, "You gotta keep your wits about you somehow".
With his family's blessing, we share the first 50 seconds of our film about his life, BURD.
Grateful to have known him.

🎬 BURDENED — a short film about a young woman forced to grow up too fast. After a tragic car crash leaves her mom in a coma, 19-year-old Dakota is left to care for her younger brother, Zach, who struggles with severe ADHD and school bullying. As the weight of parenthood falls on her shoulders, Dakota begins to lose sight of herself — until a reconnection with an old friend sparks the realization that she deserves a life of her own.
We’re proud of what we’ve made — but we could really use your support to help finish it. Tomorrow, we’re launching our Indiegogo campaign to raise $9,000 CAD dedicated specifically for post-production. Every contribution brings us closer to sharing Burdened with the world.
Here’s where your support goes:
🎧 $3,200 CAD – Sound Design (5.1 surround mix)
🎼 $2,200 CAD – Original Score
🎨 $1,500 CAD – Colour Grade
🎟️ $1,300 CAD – Festival Submissions (Sundance, Berlinale, Cannes + more)
🖼️ $800 CAD – Promotional Posters
We’ve poured our hearts into this film — now we’re asking for a little help from yours. Campaign drops tomorrow. Let’s finish this together. 💛

Earlier this year we were honoured to win “Best Comedy” at the Canadian Black Screen Awards @bafgcanada for our comedy short “Dear Friend”.
This short was co-production between @wrapped.productions & @letterfifty
Two stellar black owned production companies operating in Canada and the US. @biggieschmals & @laura.friedmann really carried this one and I'm honoured to be along for the ride.
More to come.
