Opening celebration Wednesday 16 July 6-9pm.
This month in Gallery 2 is ‘Mnemonic Generator’, an exhibition by Visaya Hoffie.
In spoken and written language, mnemonics offer memory-triggers. As a visual language, painting offers triggers that dislodge the forgotten corners of memory and that retrieve them into new associations. The act of viewing a painting involves processes where a visual field activates responses that link the recognisable to the mysterious or forgotten, the past and present, the commonplace to the profound. In this series, Hoffie combines readily recognisable symbols and forms with aspects that may appear contradictory and unrelated to weave together a new provisional narrative.
16 July - 23 Aug.
