Our precious clifftop chalk grassland, home to many special plants and insects, is partly managed by grazing. For millennia animals have grazed the turf here, and these days the National Trust uses cattle and Exmoor ponies to perform this traditional role in certain areas.
When you’re out walking, particularly with dogs, please keep a respectful distance from the ponies and cattle and keep dogs on leads. They are not domesticated and have had limited human contact so try to not walk between them or approach them from behind as they may be startled. Please do not feed them. Thank you.
Read more about walking on the White Cliffs and which areas are currently being grazed on the National Trust website: nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/the-white-cliffs-of-dover

May is National Walking Month and we're chuffed to have some really great walking routes in our beautiful corner of Kent by the sea. You'll find one of the most iconic walks in England - the section of the King Charles III England Coast Path that crosses the White Cliffs of Dover - here. No doubt you've seen it on many a social media account - fantastic views of the English Channel, glimpses of gleaming white chalk cliffs, glittering sea, singing skylarks...
If you've not experienced this for yourself, what are you waiting for? It's a fairly easy walk, you can walk from Dover Priory station (just over an hour from London St Pancras by highspeed on @se_railway ), there are two National Trust cafes on the route (scones, anyone?), plus plenty of places to refuel in Dover.

The Romans celebrated May Day with the Floralia - a vibrant festival to honour Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers. Come and feel the May magic at the amazing Richborough Roman Fort & Amphitheatre near Sandwich - the atmospheric place that witnessed the beginning, the heyday and the end of Roman rule in Britain around 2000 years ago.
There’s a visitor centre, museum and car park. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Open daily until the end of October from 10am-5pm.

🎙Did you know that Dover played an important part in the experiments that led to us being able to share words wirelessly across the globe?🎙
It's International Marconi Day tomorrow - Saturday 25 April - and an opportunity to get hands‑on with the history of communication. From sending Morse and semaphore signals to recreating the 1899 cross‑Channel message, see the story of early wireless technology brought to life in the building where Marconi made history - Dover's magnificent Maison Dieu.
Together with South Foreland Lighthouse and Dover Market Square, it is one of 56 venues around the world taking part in International Marconi Day, celebrating the early history of radio and Marconi's legacy, with a range of FREE activities for all ages. Come along between 10am and 3pm to find out more about Marconi and his amazing inventions.

Dover 🇬🇧 — The White Cliffs, to be exact. If you’re taking LeShuttle from Calais to Folkestone, you’re suddenly so close to one of England’s most iconic spots.. so skipping the cliffs didn’t really feel like an option. 🤭
We only had a few hours, so we parked the car (for a few pounds) and went for a walk along the cliffs. The kind where you stop every few minutes, sit down, look at the view, and realise how unreal it actually is. 🌊 We even found a little bookstore along the way! 📚
On the way back, we decided to take a different path.. which turned out to be right along the edge of the cliff. Very narrow, very high up, and not exactly ideal if you’re scared of heights (hi, me 😅). I genuinely thought I was going to die for a second, but also.. the views were worth it. Kind of. It's definitely one of those stops that sticks with you! 💫
Would you take the scenic (slightly terrifying) route? 👀
