Over the past months, I and my team @visioninview have been immersed in putting together this material from @opensocietyfoundations Global convening For The Restitution of African Cultural Heritage - Heritage is humanity.
This cause, restitution of African artifacts is only realized when we all accept that heritage indeed is humanity. What africa lost is memory which created cultural gaps.
Having no clue of what we were before in its entirety and having our histories begin from slavery. Colonialism ripped us from knowing the Africa before colonialism, where these artifacts were symbols of our culture, hence mitigating Africa’s civilization on the parallels of growth and evolution.
The return of the objects cant fully restore what has been lost but it is a good start to repair culture and grant more access to the future yet to come
Thank you to @veronikachatsss and @ibrahimaaniang for such a splendid convening and to the entire team at OpenSociety Foundations and all stakeholders involved

Fragments from the opening week of the 61st International Art Exhibition of @labiennale curated by the late Koyo Kouoh

A week ago today in the Giardini at the Venice @labiennale , I witnessed something I’m still carrying with me. Chief Demond Melancon’s (@qadamawi ) Blessing the Ancestors unfolded as both ritual and procession where the body became a vessel for memory, resistance, and spirit. Through movement, sound, and call-and-response, the space opened up to something beyond performance a shared act of remembrance, healing, and joy.
Rooted in the Black Masking culture of New Orleans, and performed in his Jah Defender suit, the work moved in rhythm with the elements water, air, fire, earth and with the presence of those who came before.

What a week on the ground at the 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, documenting “In Minor Keys” a visual and meditative procession inviting us to slow down, listen, and sit with art more deeply.
From performances to installations, the Biennale unfolds like a minor key in music holding space for the blues, the lament, the whisper, and the call and response. Across pavilions and sites, artists engage colonial histories, ecological urgencies, and spiritual traditions, imagining forms of coexistence grounded in attunement rather than domination.
Curated by the late #koyokouoh In Minor Keys carried a profound sense of care and resonance. It was powerful to witness the global art community gather in such depth honouring her vision and the work of her team.
Grateful to have documented this moment.

Inside @jamesfindlaymaps , a space where ink, cartography and time sit patiently on wooden shelves.
First editions.
Antique maps.
Margins annotated by hands long gone.
Atlases that once mapped empire.
Books that travelled oceans before arriving here.
I filmed without staging, just observing how knowledge ages, how paper breathes, how geography once imagined the world into shape.
Every map is a story about power.
Every book, a quiet witness.

Glimpses from inside Cape Town Club, one of the oldest private members’ clubs in Cape Town. Housed since 1898 in the Sir Herbert Baker designed building funded by Cecil Rhodes, the space once hosted figures like General Jan Smuts as he drafted pivotal moments in history. Women were first welcomed as members in 1979. After closing in 2017, the Club revived in 2024 honouring its heritage while opening itself to a more inclusive present.
These shots aren’t staged they’re encounters with light, time, and the quiet stored in old rooms. The grand salon, leather-lined lounges, the library, all carry fragments of history in their surfaces.
A space once shaped by its traditions now meets a moment that asks us to see how history lives beside new life.

In Minor Keys.
An afternoon of conversation and lunch hosted by @zeitzmocaa and @bloomberg at @betweenus.ct gathering in anticipation of the 61st Venice @labiennale curated by @notjustacreator , @swangs_express and @tiff_rews .
Voices from @siddharthamitter , @thato_mogotsi84 and @o2bfree reflected on In Minor Keys, curated by late #koyokouoh , a framework that asks us not to speak over, but to tune in. More sensory than didactic. Artists becoming channels, opening portals that refresh and nourish audiences.
Following the official announcement, the scale deepened: 111 artists and collectives. 6 artist-led organisations.
A biennale guided by undercurrents rather than rigid sections where art is emotional, visual, subjective and effective. Where staying with a work long enough shall allow something to ripen.
Congratulations to all invited artists and organisations. And to the curatorial and editorial voices shaping the discourse of La Biennale di Venezia, Koyo Kouoh’s team @siddharthamitter , @neneperei , @gabefeijoo , @rashasalti and @westvirginiababy .

At this year’s edition of @investeccapetownartfair , I found myself listening beyond sound. Listening through texture, gesture, through the way people pause in front of a work and the quiet negotiations between space, body, and object.
These frames are less about documentation and more about attention, small moments gathered while moving through the fair.
An attempt to respond, rather than record.
