Cerebras Systems didn’t just go public this week; it minted #billionaires and delivered one of the biggest venture paydays in years. The #AI chip startup priced its IPO at $185 a share on Wednesday, above a range it had already raised twice. Shares opened at $350 on Thursday and closed at $311.07, valuing the company at roughly $95 billion. The $5.55 billion offering is the largest U.S. tech #IPO since Uber in 2019 and the biggest semiconductor debut on record, serving as an early test of investor appetite for a wave of A.I. listings, including OpenAI and Anthropic later this year. Read more at the link in our bio.

The case for playing public #golf near New York City has rarely been stronger. The tristate area covers more elite public courses than any other two-hour bubble in the country: Tillinghast, Macdonald, Raynor, Ross, Pete Dye, RTJ Sr. and a half-dozen Golden Age architects whose names show up on every top-100 list, all bookable without a country club membership. At the link in our bio, explore our full #travelguide, curated by @paulgoesthere , to the best public golf courses within two hours of NYC, ranging from Long Island state parks to Pocono resort stay-and-plays to Connecticut munis.

With #Frieze New York opening just a few blocks away, @futurefairs close by and @154artfair in the same building, NADA (@newartdealers ) opened in good company. As a group primarily made up of New Yorkers and American collectors roamed the aisles during the VIP preview, there was not the clear sense of urgency that once animated NADA’s fast sold-out previews. Maybe it was the simple fact that there are more than six #artfairs overlapping, though it might have to do with the fact that, despite NADA’s international profile and a strong presence from the Americas, there were just a few gems from Asia and very few exhibitors from Europe. Read @elisartgal ’s full report at the link in our bio.

#Meta spared no expense in building up a new #AI team last year, shelling out multimillion-dollar pay packages to poach researchers at the heart of its superintelligence strategy. But those who joined weren’t driven by money alone, according to #AlexandrWang, Meta’s A.I. chief who joined from his startup, Scale AI. Read more at the link in our bio.

Europe’s seaside summer scene is sizzling, with party-hard hotspots like Mykonos, Bodrum and Saint-Tropez always attracting eager visitors. But if you’re after something even slower, rooted in relaxation, follow the tranquil rhythms to #Comporta, in the Alentejo region, just 90 minutes south of Lisbon. It's a destination for rising without alarm clocks, alfresco coffee, languid afternoons, gauzy knits and bare feet, and the locale’s hospitality landscape reflects that sun-warmed, easygoing atmosphere. Head the link in our bio to explore our full #travelguide to the best places to stay in Comporta, curated by @lindsay_cohn .

#Frieze New York opened on Wednesday, part of an expanding ecosystem of more than six #artfairs taking place across the city and heralding the May #auctions, which are expected to bring in more than $1 billion. It’s a grueling test of endurance for art enthusiasts, but even more so for the #artmarket. When Observer spoke with the fair’s director, Christine Messineo, ahead of the opening, she was optimistic that the growing constellation of fairs around Frieze would amplify, rather than diminish, its impact. Head to the link in our bio for @elisartgal ’s full report on the fair.

In February, Sally Abé (@littlechefsally ) got the keys to her first solo restaurant, Teal (@tealbysallyabe ). Located on Wilton Way, a buzzy street in Hackney, Abé had been looking for a potential spot that would be achievable without investors since 2019. It took only Abé and her business partner, Abe Drewry, six weeks to transform the space into Teal, named for Abé’s favorite game bird, a type of wild duck. The colors are soft and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed—a carefully curated home-away-from-home vibe. Read more by @emilyzemler at the link in our bio.

On the heels of #SamAltman’s testimony in the ongoing trial over #ElonMusk’s lawsuit against OpenAI, a clearer picture is emerging of how Musk might have run the company differently. Musk, a co-founder of #OpenAI as a nonprofit, is suing the company, its CEO Altman and president Greg Brockman for “stealing a charity.” He is seeking to have the now $852 billion #AI company return to its original nonprofit structure and is also pursuing up to $180 billion in damages. Taking the stand, Altman said he felt like Musk “had abandoned us, not come through on his promises, put the company in a very difficult place, jeopardized the mission, [and] didn’t really care about the things I thought he cared about.” Read more at the link in our bio.

Digital innovations and advances in #AI have turbocharged remote work through data capture, producing a new generation of #workplace monitoring, performance analytics and employee profiling tools. The pitch is compelling, but these tools have created a power asymmetry between organizations armed with sophisticated predictive tools and employees who are largely unaware of how they are being profiled. At the link in our bio, Zal.ai CEO Kayvon Touran and organizational leadership expert Ben Dattner break down the profound ethical and legal implications of this increasing #surveillance.

The “three D rule”—death, divorce, debt—often motivates #artcollectors to sell, but many choose to part with works simply to free up resources for the next chapter of their collecting journeys. That might mean diversifying, acquiring work by a new generation of artists or creating an infrastructure that supports artistic and cultural production, circulation and impact in the communities they care about. The latter is what motivated #Detroit philanthropist and art collector Jennifer Gilbert to sell several masterpieces from her collection with @sothebys . Proceeds from sales will support Lumana, a new arts #nonprofit in Detroit set to launch in 2027, serving as a hub for artists, designers and cultural institutions in Little Village on the city’s east side. Read more by @elisartgal at the link in our bio.

The Bezos Family Foundation, founded by #JeffBezos’ parents, Miguel and Jackie, is committing $100 million to @robinhoodnyc , the city’s largest poverty-fighting #nonprofit. The funds are part of a Robin Hood campaign to raise $1 billion to support initiatives including emergency food, housing, education, job training, benefits access and legal services. The Bezos family’s donation serves as the campaign’s anchor gift and will establish the Jackie Bezos Endowment for Early Childhood at Robin Hood—named in recognition of Jackie, who died last year at age 78. Read more at the link in our bio.
