After many, many years of hard graft, one of London’s most formidable chefs has finally opened her own restaurant - and it’s a total triumph. A proudly British bistro, you’ll find @tealbysallyabe on Wilton Way, dishing out a range of unapologetic British dishes. Co-owned with General Manager Abe Drewry, with head chef @abbie_hendren in the kitchen, the dining room boasts a perpetually happy buzz. It’s not hard to understand why. You’ll find plenty of @littlechefsally signatures here (delicious knife and fork bacon, we’re looking at you), alongside Victorian ‘savouries’, updated retro fare, and classic combinations transformed into a menu that’s elegant, entirely original, and long overdue. Small in size but big on personality, this is Abé cooking exactly as she wants - London is all the better for it. Go! #londonfoodguide #londoneats #londonrestaurantguide ukrestaurantguide

I went down to spend some time with Sally and the team at Hackney Foodbank last week. Opening a restaurant in a neighbourhood like this, it feels really important to be part of the community, not just sit alongside it. What they do every day is nothing short of incredible, showing up for people with so much care and dignity. So we’re using our penny lick as a small way to support the work they do, every penny lick is £1 donated to them. It’s not a big gesture, but it means a lot to be able to contribute to something that really matters locally. ❤️❤️❤️

The beauty of #yorkshirerhubarb distilled into some Rhubarb Vodka then mixed up magically into a rhubarb sour at the joyful @tealbysallyabe Food images on their way but what a gorgeous place landing in the neighbourhood. @littlechefsally

@tealbysallyabe is a recently opened bistro-style restaurant in Hackney. We stopped by for lunch and tried the following dishes: 🦪 Angels on horseback. 🥚 Brawn scotch egg. 🥓 Knife and fork bacon, sour cream & chive. 🫛 New season asparagus tartlet, Old Winchester. 🦪 Cornish mussels, Jersey Royals, cauliflower & sea herbs. 🐑 Rump of lamb, Roscoff onion & wild garlic. 🍮 Raspberry marshmallow teacake. 🍦 Penny lick. Set within a cosy, understated dining room, the restaurant offers a relaxed yet assured atmosphere that complements its refined approach to modern British cooking. This is the first solo venture from Chef Sally Abé, whose background in some of the UK’s most respected kitchens is evident in the delivery of their dishes. The food was delicious!! Standout dishes included the knife and fork bacon, which was exceptional and easily among the best we’ve had in years, as well as the beautifully executed Scotch egg. The rump of lamb was beautifully cooked, and the Cornish mussels, paired with Jersey Royals and sea herbs was so good. Desserts were a highlight in their own right, the raspberry marshmallow teacake offered both texture and sharpness, while the penny lick delivered a playful, nostalgic finish. Service was excellent, special thanks to Abraham for his superb recommendations. Overall, Teal by Sally Abé is a fantastic addition to the Hackney dining scene. We look forward to returning, particularly once the terrace is in full use. 📍 Teal by Sally Abé, Wilton Way, Hackney. . . . . #britishfood #hackney #goodfood #londonfood #londonfoodscene

Teal by @littlechefsally opened its doors on March 26th and we are obsessed 😍 Considered one of London’s best chefs, having worked in three Michelin Star kitchens prior, Sally Abé has opened her first restaurant, right on Wilton Way, and the reviews are already glowing. It’s a quaint British bistro, championing seasonal produce, female led kitchens and dishes that dig deep into British culinary history. Plus, their Penny Lick ice cream is £1 with all proceeds from ice cream sales going to @hackneyfoodbank 🧡 With only 26 covers and the largest table being of 6, this intimate spot is already in high demand and booking ahead is advised. “I’m just so proud to put out the food I want without anybody telling me what to do.” After years spent building other people’s restaurants, @littlechefsally has finally gone it alone with @tealbysallyabe – and it’s unlike anywhere else in the capital. She’s got an entirely female team on the pans, and is donating all the money from a particular Victorian dessert to a local food bank. Read more at the link in bio. @littlechefsally has been making diners feel good for more than 20 years, at restaurants such as the Savoy and Claridge’s under the stewardship of Gordon Ramsay, and the Harwood Arms, which remains the only gastropub in London to hold a Michelin star. Ahead of the opening of her first standalone restaurant, @tealbysallyabe , she sat down with The Observer’s @hayleymyers to discuss the joy of opening her own restaurant, misogyny in award-winning kitchens, and why a happy team leads to happy diners.
