Last night marked the fifth annual Local Heroes Awards, recognising local government workers who go above and beyond for their community.
This year, we celebrated across two cities at once, with entries extended to New South Wales for the first time.
It was a fantastic evening, full of inspiring stories, and above are some highlights from the awards ceremonies which took place in both Melbourne and Sydney.
Thank you to all our incredible nominees and congratulations to all the Vision Super Local Heroes for 2026! Stay tuned for more details about this year’s winners🏆
Thank you also to the @asu.victas for helping make these awards possible.
Many Australians have multiple super accounts. But multiple super accounts could be costing you multiple fees. So, it’s worth running a quick SuperMatch search to sniff out any stray super.

Yesterday, at 3pm in the office lobby, Alix participated in the @WorldsGreatestShave . Not only has she smashed her target and raised over $6000 for the @Leukaemia_Foundation , but we also think she looks amazing with her new do!
Pictured in the second photo are staff from @TheUnknownBarbershop , who generously donated their time and equipment to support Alix.
We’re so proud of Alix for taking on this challenge and stepping up to shave her hair. The money she’s raised will help change the lives of Australians facing blood cancer by providing critical care and support services as well as funding game-changing research projects.

Did you know up to three quarters of your retirement balance may come from investment earnings alone? Your money can literally make money over time.
Small actions today can mean you have more in retirement, which is why understanding how super works is so important.
The @SuperMembersCouncil ’s “Look after your super” initiative is urging more people — especially younger Australians — to look after their super like their own golden goose, so it can grow and look after them for life.

On 1 April 2026, one of our incredible employees, Alix, is shaving her hair as part of the @Leukaemia_Foundation 's @WorldsGreatestShave . She’ll even be doing it live in the office!
Right now, over 150,000 families are facing the devastating impacts of blood cancer and 17 Australians lose their life to this disease every single day – for Alix, this cause is personal.
The money Alix raises could help fund life-changing research projects and support services for blood cancer patients and their loved ones.
Alix is also donating her hair to the Ponytail Project, an initiative by the @CancerCouncil and Sustainable Salons to help create wigs for people who have lost their hair due to medical conditions.
We’re so proud of Alix and what she’s doing to raise awareness for blood cancer. Find out more about the #WorldsGreatestShave at https://bit.ly/47rVYJs.
Nearly half of Australians say they don’t understand the basics of super, according to new research from the Super Members Council.
For many people, retirement feels far away — which can make it hard to stay connected to their super today. But understanding your super early can make a real difference to your future.
That’s why we’re sharing the new national education initiative from the @supermemberscouncil : “Look after your super”. The idea is to think of your super like your very own golden super goose — nurture and care for it today, and it’ll look after you later in life.

This International Women’s Day 2026, we recognise the global themes “Give to Gain” and “Balance the Scales.”
In Australia, women on average still retire with less superannuation than men, which is one reason why single older women have one of the highest risks of poverty. It’s due to a well understood range of factors including career breaks, more part-time work, lower average earnings and caring responsibilities. Separation or divorce can also have a big impact.
Last year’s announcement that Australians will get super on top of government-funded paid parental leave for children born or adopted from 1 July 2025 was an important step forward, but more needs to be done.
At Vision Super, we’re committed to helping women achieve better financial outcomes for their retirement. By supporting and empowering women with the knowledge, tools and guidance to grow their super, we aim to help more women retire with confidence.

An effective Local Heroes nomination clearly explains why they deserve the award, what sets their contribution apart from others, and describes the impact or outcome of their contribution. Don’t just say your nominee is outstanding – prove it!
The most common mistake with nominations is that they are too short or need more detail – to catch the eye of the judging panel, it's important to explain and include clear examples of what makes your local hero so exceptional. There are more tips below on writing a winning nomination.
