Over the past fortnight, I have received a rigorous education in public service.
I once assumed the role of a Special Adviser was largely cerebral; policy briefs, research, consultation and strategic counsel. I have since learned that the work is far more field than files.
Shadowing the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture to the Governor of Lagos State, Hon. Idris Aregbe, has reshaped my perspective and sharpened my discipline, work ethic, and sense of responsibility. Behind the scenes, the work is demanding, relentless, and often thankless; rarely captured, yet always expected. I have learned that the most consequential work happens where cameras are absent, 100% grit, 0% glory, felt by Lagosians through excellence in delivery rather than visibility.
From fast-paced field operations that prompted my early switch from stilettos to sneakers, to long, activity-heavy days stretching into the early hours, one truth was clear to me- excellence for Lagosians is non-negotiable. The standard across the relevant stakeholders and MDAs is uncompromising, and ownership of outcomes is absolute. I witnessed a culture of commitment and accountability from key senior leaders who prioritized the public (an expected 22,000 for the Eyo festival). Public service is, indeed, service to the public; driven not by optics, but by stewardship.
It was humbling to witness the conception-to-completion of three major projects; the Eyo Festival, Culturati, and Wizkidâs show, and to contribute, however modestly, to their execution.
While my work with
@missonenigeriaorg has been formative and foundational, the past two weeks have underscored how much more the culture space demands.
With Godâs grace, I enter 2026 committed to growth; building the creative muscle, wisdom, and physical stamina required to advance our culture, arts, and tourism.
This experience has been less paperwork and far more groundwork. I am deeply grateful to my Leader
@idrisconnectingnigeria for a field education that no memo could provide.
Thank you, Sir, for your guidance, for the standards you set that continue to stretch my capacity; and for challenging me to rise to the demands of this new chapter.
