New workshop “Make your own glaze” 🔥 with @a_blgkv starting in May.
About the workshop 🎨
5 participants • 5 weeks (5 sessions in 10 hours) • Beginner • More details on the website (Link in bio)
A studio workshop of 10 hours in 5 sessions built around guided glaze making and understanding how glazes behave. You’ll work with your own glaze samples and see how different materials shape surface, texture, and colour.
You choose what you want to explore, ranging from basic food-safe glazes to special-effect surfaces like oil spotted or lichen glazes. All samples are fired in the studio kiln and reviewed together after firing.
About the teacher 🧑🏫
Alena Bulgakova (They/She) is a Berlin-based ceramic artist and graphic designer from Kaluga region, Russia. They began working with ceramics through handbuilding. They studied glaze development with OVO Lavka, a studio known for its research-driven approach. This was followed by independent glaze testing and material exploration. They took part in an art residency at Kusanokashira Kiln in Japan, working with Mino ware traditions including Hikidashi-guro, ash glazes, Oribe, and Shino. Their practice explores mythology, the human–nature relationship, vulnerability, routines, rituals, and play.
Looking forward to see you there…
Hi. For those who don’t know me yet, I am Violaine, the artist behind this page.
In 2017, I moved to Berlin from France after a master degree in product design to do an internship with a porcelain designer and somehow I managed to learn the wheel on the way and got to teach other people 6 months after my arrival in Germany.
At the time, I was sharing a place with other people and posting my work on Instagram mostly to archive my progress and explain to my close friends and relatives what the heck I was doing so far away.
After 1,5 years teaching for someone else, I founded my own studio. It was scary and stressful. I didn’t sleep well for the first 3 years, had to give up on vacations to be able to pay the rent, produce orders to meet the deadlines and often was mixing up my private life with my job which wasn’t always easy to manage not to mention having to learn two languages simultaneously (English and German).
Involving my close people in this journey was a necessity and I realized later on that I had to accept this blurriness and even embrace it.
Today, I am where I never wished I would be 5 years ago. I trained someone who became my assistant, I travel to spread my love for this craft, meeting passionate people and making ceramics for great brand and individuals.
Today, there is still uncertainty sometimes when it comes to finances, I am still figuring out where I place myself as an artist and how I will go on with my brand but this journey is worth all the doubts and sacrifices and if like me, you wouldn’t see yourself working for someone else and not creating with your hands everyday, I encourage you to take the risk: you might even succeed and be happy after all 🤍

Almost halfway through 2026..
I don’t know about you, but I feel like these past five months were both endless and over in the blink of an eye. I hit a few walls and really pushed myself mentally. I don’t have any photos of the moments of doubt and anxiety, the pain, or the difficulties I faced and that’s perfect like that. I’ll only remember the bright light and sun rays, the laughters and smiles. I’m grateful for these months spent growing and learning. What’s next?
