Hi! I am Violaine Toth, a French 29 year-old queer artist and ceramic teacher based in Berlin. I thought I’d write those words for you who compare yourself as you scroll down my page.
From the outside, on Instagram, it probably looks like I’m having my shit together, spending my time traveling and having fun, earning lots of money doing what I love and knowing where I’m going. Well. The truth is a bit more nuanced and let me tell you: there are days where I have no idea what I’m doing, where I’m anxious of failing, of not being able to pay the bills, scared of disappointing others and myself and feel misunderstood like everybody else having a big project like mine.
Sometimes you'll feel alone. And that’s because you are. Sometimes you’ll feel that no one understands what you're going through and that no matter what you do, it will never be good enough.
You'll look at others and tell yourself that you've missed something, that you're not enough or too much and that they do better. And then you'll feel stupid for feeling sorry for yourself when "there are worse things in life". Guess what? No matter where you are and how much you achieve in a day, you’ll probably feel like this sometimes and that’s human.
In those moments, I try to imagine a little window.
A porthole to the outside of my head and the foggy thoughts inside. And I tell myself stories. I reassure myself. As if my inner child just needed to be told that it doesn't matter if you have no idea where you'll be tomorrow.
Yes. In fact, I think that's what being an adult is all about. It's knowing how to reassure yourself and accepting that sometimes the only person who can help you is you.
