The Firefly in Amsing , Assam is a rare demonstration of bamboo as a structure rather than cladding.
Designed by Neha Jain (@nehaj9228 ) and Piyush Sharma (Co-Founder and Structural Engineer for this project) of Ekarth Studio (@ekarth.studio ) with bamboo masters Jörg Stamm(@jorg.stamm ) and Vinc Math(@vinc_math )
The villa explores the structural and spatial potential of ‘Bambusa Balcooa’ through planar trusses, space-frames, and hyperbolic towers engineered to withstand seismic loads.
Its dramatic saddle roof rising to 10 m - performs as both a ventilation system and architectural statement, framing the landscape with a sculptural silhouette.
Interiors integrate ‘Araish’ lime plaster and woven ‘Kauna’ grass ceilings, bringing artisanal tactility to modern luxury.
The Firefly is not simply a villa, but a milestone in advancing bamboo architecture in India - an argument for permanence, resilience, and material authenticity.
